The nickel catalyzed reductive coupling of aldehydes with sorbate esters and related electron-deficient 1,3-dienes are known in the literature to occur at the π-bond proximal to the ester to afford aldol-type products. In stark contrast to this established path, a VAPOL-derived phosphoramidite ligand in combination with a bench-stable nickel precatalyst brokers a regiocomplementary course in that C-C bond formation proceeds exclusively at the distal alkene site to give deoxypropionate type products carrying an acrylate handle; they can be made in either - or -configured form. In addition to this enabling reverse pathway, the reaction is distinguished by excellent levels of chemo-, diastereo-, and enantioselectivity; moreover, it can be extended to the catalytic formation of FC-substituted stereogenic centers. The use of a dienyl pinacolboronate instead of a sorbate ester is also possible, which opens access to valuable chiral borylated building blocks in optically active form.

The razor clam , a significant marine bivalve species, inhabits estuaries and encounters salinity stress. Despite its commercial importance, there is limited understanding of its adaptive mechanisms to high salinity. Aldehyde dehydrogenases (ALDHs), which belong to the NAD(P)-dependent superfamily, play a crucial role in stress resilience by participating in catabolic and anabolic pathways, such as carnitine synthesis, glycolysis, and amino acid metabolism.

The bipyridyl tantalum complex (2,6-PrCHO)Ta(bipy) () is synthesized by the reaction of (2,6-PrCHO)TaCl () and 2,2'-bipyridine in the presence of excess potassium graphite (KC). Complex coordinates readily with pyridine and 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine (dmap) to form Lewis base adducts (2,6-PrCHO)Ta(bipy)(L) (L = py (), dmap ()), and it exhibits rich redox reactivity toward small molecules: (a) single electron transfer (SET) occurs upon exposure of to phenyl sulfide or selenide dimer, giving the open-shell, bipy-centered radical complexes (2,6-PrCHO)Ta(bipy)(PhE) (E = S (), Se ()). (b) Regioselective C-C σ-bond formation via radical coupling is observed in the SET reaction of and aldehydes, ketones, or imines to furnish insertion products -, namely, sterically more crowded benzophenone, acetophenone, 2,6-dichlorobenzaldehyde, and benzophenone imine couple with C6 or C6' of bipy in , respectively, whereas sterically less hindered benzaldehyde, cyclohexanone, and benzylideneaniline couple with C2 or C2' of bipy, respectively.

Chiral allyl amines are important structural components in natural products, pharmaceuticals, and chiral catalysts. Herein, we report a cobalt-catalyzed enantioselective reductive coupling of imines with internal alkynes to synthesize chiral allyl amines. The reaction is catalyzed by a cobalt complex derived from commercially available bisphosphine ligand utilizing zinc as the electron donor.

Although numerous transition-metal catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of alkenyl electrophiles with a sulfur(VI) leaving group, mainly alkenyl sulfones, have been developed, most rely heavily on highly nucleophilic Grignard reagents, and the use of organoboron reagents remains challenging. We report herein facile preparation and the following Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of alkenyl sulfoximine, a monoaza analog of sulfone. The condensation of alkyl sulfoximine with aldehydes, developed in this study, makes alkenyl sulfoximines more readily available.

Overall water splitting (OWS) to produce hydrogen has attracted large attention in recent years due to its ecological-friendliness and sustainability. However, the efficiency of OWS has been forced by the sluggish kinetics of the four-electron oxygen evolution reaction (OER). The replacement of OER by alternative electrooxidation of small molecules with more thermodynamically favorable potentials may fundamentally break the limitation and achieve hydrogen production with low energy consumption, which may also be accompanied by the production of more value-added chemicals than oxygen or by electrochemical degradation of pollutants.
