An antifouling sensing surface was constructed by crosslinking two-dimensional nanomaterial MXene with bovine serum albumin (BSA) denatured by urea previously. The immunoglobulin G (IgG) capture peptide was then modified to the surface to construct a highly selective antifouling electrochemical biosensor. Due to the large specific surface area and good electrical conductivity of MXene, the sensitivity of the biosensor is significantly enhanced. The biosensor at a working potential of around - 0.18 V (vs. Ag/AgCl) provides a wide linear detection range (0.1 ng/mL to 10 µg/mL) for IgG with a limit of detection of 23 pg/mL (3σ/k). The result is consistent with that obtained from the commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent kit. Compared with BSA, which is usually used as a passivator or blocker for biosensing platforms, the hydrogel formed through the peptide chain obtained from BSA with good hydrophilicity can provide a better antifouling sensing surface to resist nonspecific adsorption. The prepared biosensor can quantitatively detect the concentration of IgG in complex human serum with high sensitivity. Thus, the antifouling sensing surface constructed without expensive antifouling materials and complex process is expected to develop as a variety of electrochemical biosensors and used for the clinical testing of biomarkers. The amount of methane released to the atmosphere from the Nord Stream subsea pipeline leaks remains uncertain, as reflected in a wide range of estimates. A lack of information regarding the temporal variation in atmospheric emissions has made it challenging to reconcile pipeline volumetric (bottom-up) estimates with measurement-based (top-down) estimates. Here we simulate pipeline rupture emission rates and integrate these with methane dissolution and sea-surface outgassing estimates to model the evolution of atmospheric emissions from the leaks.

Molecular recognition events between proteins drive biological processes in living systems. However, higher levels of mechanistic regulation have emerged, in which protein-protein interactions are conditioned to small molecules. Despite recent advances, computational tools for the design of new chemically induced protein interactions have remained a challenging task for the field.

This research using the first-principles theory introduces Pd- and Pt-functionalized WSe monolayers as promising materials for detecting three critical gases (H, CO, and CH), to evaluate the health of Li-ion battery (LIBs). Various sites on the pristine WSe monolayer are considered for the functionalization with Pd and Pt atoms. The adsorption performances of the determined Pd- and Pt-WSe monolayers upon the three gases are analyzed by the comparative highlight of the adsorption energy, bonding behavior and electron transfer.

A convenient method is proposed using a heat-treatable volatile template to prepare hierarchical porous biochar (HPB). Litsea cubeba leaves and ZIF-8 served as carbon source and volatile hard template, respectively. The good compatibility between ZIF-8 and biomass facilitated their uniform dispersion, and the thermal decomposition of ZIF-8 created abundant pores in the HPB.
