The death of a patient in the operating room frequently causes great distress to the patient's family, and the surgical team members who performed the procedure typically feel uneasy about it afterward. Anesthetic death is characterized as a death that happens 24 hours after anesthesia is administered and is caused by anesthetic-related factors. However, death can come much later because of its complications.

Objective: Achondroplasia is associated with foramen magnum stenosis (FMS), which can lead to sudden unexpected death in infants. There is no wide consensus regarding the best management of FMS. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence of FMS in a cohort of children with achondroplasia and to evaluate screening and neurosurgical interventions of FMS regarding its effects and complications.

We evaluated whether a hospital-based anesthesia department can validly use automated intensive care unit (ICU) admission data after elective ambulatory procedures to assess the quality of anesthetic care. Among 13,656 patients, 25 (0.2%) had an unplanned hospital length of stay >1 night and ICU admission.

Purpose: Unexpected anesthesia-related complications are among the most feared outcomes of ambulatory surgery. One potential culprit is pseudocholinesterase deficiency, which most commonly presents with protracted apnea, necessitating prolonged mechanical ventilation. We report the first case of pseudocholinesterase deficiency in a Bengali person and the first systematic review of pseudocholinesterase deficiency in ophthalmology.
