Tear film flow and stability studies were carried out in patients suffering from acute and chronic conjunctivitis by performing Schirmer test-I and break-up-time (BUT) measurements. In this clinical study, patients with chronic conjunctival inflammation demonstrated a premature break-up of tear film despite normal amounts of aqueous tears. In acute catarrhal conjunctivitis the values of BUT were within normal limits, whereas the values of Schirmer test-I were significantly higher (t-test, P less than 0.001) and are considered to be due to reflex hypersecretion of tears.

Purpose: To evaluate levels of 3 tear-soluble neuropeptides in dry eye patients and to identify the correlations with clinical signs and symptoms.
Methods: A total of 16 dry eye patients and 12 healthy volunteers were enrolled. Dry eye disease (DED) diagnosis was based on the 2017 Report of the Tear Film & Ocular Surface Society International Dry Eye Workshop (TFOS DEWS II).

Objective: To investigate the effects of minimally invasive strabismus surgery (MISS) on tear film function and ocular surface status in patients with strabismus.
Methods: We respectively analyzed the clinical data from 173 cases of strabismus patients treated at Xi'an First Hospital from September 2021 to March 2024. The patients were classified into a minimally invasive group (n=91, undergoing MISS) and a conventional group (n=82, undergoing traditional strabismus correction) according to their treatment plans.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of Moisture Chamber Goggles combined with Fluorometholone eye drops on visual function and oxidative stress in patients with dry eye disease.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 80 patients with dry eye disease treated at Ninghai First Hospital from January 2021 to May 2023. Patients were divided into a combination group (n=40, receiving Fluorometholone eye drops and Moisture Chamber Goggles) and a monotherapy group (n=40, receiving Fluorometholone eye drops alone) based on treatment regimens.

Background: This study investigates the effect of botulinum toxin A on lipid layer thickness (LLT) and blink dynamics in patients with benign essential blepharospasm (BEB) compared to dry eye disease (DED) patients.
Methods: We reviewed the medical records of patients with dry eye disease (DED) and BEB treated with botulinum toxin A (BoT A) injections. Data on demographics, lipid layer thickness (LLT), meiboscore, and blink dynamics measured using a LipiView II interferometer before and 2 months after BoT A were collected.

Dry eye disease is a multifactorial condition characterized by a loss of homeostasis of the tear film. Among the various treatment approaches, the application of ophthalmic oil-in-water nanoemulsions with incorporated anti-inflammatory drugs represents one of the most advanced approaches. However, the liquid nature of nanoemulsions limits their retention time at the ocular surface.
