Objectives: Perchlorates, nitrates, and thiocyanates constitute environmental endocrine disruptors; however, health damage caused by absorption through the respiratory tract remains poorly studied. We investigated the effects of inhalation of these pollutants on thyroid function and structure and serum metabolomics in pregnant rats.

Methods: We established a Sprague-Dawley pregnant rat model exposed to perchlorate, nitrate, and thiocyanate at different gestational stages and compared maternal serum thyroid function levels, foetal development, thyroid morphology, and pathological changes between exposed and non-exposed groups at different concentrations.

Cadmium (Cd) disrupts the immune system and intestinal barrier, increasing infection risk and gut dysbiosis. Its impact on intestinal fungi, particularly the opportunistic pathogen Candida albicans, which can cause systemic infections in immunocompromised patients, is not well understood. Our study revealed that C.

Role of hepatocyte-specific FOXO1 in hepatic glucolipid metabolic disorders induced by perfluorooctane sulfonate.

Environ Pollut

Department of Toxicology, School of Public Health, Hebei Medical University, Shijiazhuang, 050017, PR China; Hebei Key Laboratory of Environment and Human Health, Hebei Province, Shijiazhuang, 050017, PR China. Electronic address:

Perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), a prevalent perfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS), is widely present in various environmental media, animals, and even human bodies. It primarily accumulates in the liver, contributing to the disruption of hepatic metabolic homeostasis. However, the precise mechanism underlying PFOS-induced hepatic glucolipid metabolic disorders remains elusive.

Pubertal stress accelerates copulation in adult male rats: Mitigating effects of a high-calorie diet in adulthood.

Physiol Behav

December 2024

Instituto de Investigaciones Cerebrales, Universidad Veracruzana, Avenida Luis Castelazo s/n Col. Industrial Ánimas, Xalapa, Veracruz C. P. 91190. Mexico.

The pubertal phase involves significant brain reorganization, where external stressors and diet can profoundly influence long-term behavioral outcomes. In this study, we investigated the interaction between acute pubertal stress (via immune challenge) and a hypercaloric diet in adulthood on the copulatory sexual behavior of male Wistar rats. At postnatal day (PND) 35, pubertal males received a single injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 1.
