The high mutational load of mitochondrial genomes combined with their uniparental inheritance and high polyploidy favors the maintenance of deleterious mutations within populations. How cells compose and adapt to the accumulation of disadvantageous mitochondrial alleles remains unclear. Most harmful changes are likely corrected by purifying selection, however, the intimate collaboration between mitochondria- and nuclear-encoded gene products offers theoretical potential for compensatory adaptive changes.

The impacts on human health and the economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic COVID-19 have been devastating. However, its environmental consequences are poorly understood. Thus, to assess whether COVID-19 therapy based on the use of azithromycin (AZT) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) during the pandemic affects wild aquatic life, we exposed (for 72 h) neotropical tadpoles of the species Physalaemus cuvieri to the water containing these drugs to 12.

It is shown that the influence of a sustained training accompanied by the development of exercise-induced hypoxia on the structural readjustments of tissues of muscles, lungs, and myocardium can be conditionally divided into 2 groups: with destructive and compensatoryadaptive features. The changes with destructive character include, firstly, those of the ultrastructure of biological bar- riers such as, in particular, hyperhydration of barriers on the whole and their separate layers, which deteriorates the conditions of oxygen diffusion; second, the destructive changes in mitochondria (it increased the number of damaged lung organelles by 4.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the selective loss of nigral dopaminergic neurons and a reduction in striatal dopaminergic fibers, which result in tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia and gait disturbance. In addition to motor dysfunction, dementia is a widely recognized symptom of patients with PD. Berberine, an isoquinoline alkaloid isolated from Berberis vulgaris L.

The paper provides a generalization of data and the results of own experiments with Wistar rats in the conditions of hypokinesia, immobilization, water deprivation, hypergravity, weightlessness and other factors affecting mother and fetus as a system. It gives a comparison of reactivity of pregnant and non-pregnant animals under stress, and also of the effects of unfavorable impacts sustained during various phases of ontogenesis: in pubertation period, directly before pregnancy and during various phases of pregnancy. It demonstrated that exposition of pregnant animals to unfavorable conditions is accompanied by significant stress of the compensatory-adaptive possibilities of mother aiming to support of homeostasis of the developing fetus.
