Early rehabilitation is beneficial for stroke patients, but it is often delayed since the patients are often bedbound due to their general condition. New robotic rehabilitation devices such as ROBERT® enable patients to exercise even while bedbound. During pilot testing of an automated FES-delivery system combined with ROBERT®, we observed both increased and decreased exerted velocity and interaction force during repetitive exercising with the system. The goal of the current study was thus to investigate the extent of both potentiation and fatigue, as assessed in the velocity and interaction force produced in response to repetitive robotic-FES exercising. Eight healthy subjects completed 50 repetitions of leg-press exercises using the hybrid robotic-FES system. For individual subjects, significant changes were found for both mean and maximal velocities and interaction forces exerted during the exercise. Roughly half of the subjects had an increase in maximal velocity and interaction force during the exercise, and half exhibited an increase in mean velocity, whereas three subjects had an increase in mean interaction force during the exercise. The changes in mean velocity were in the range of -40.6 to 30.9% and for the maximal velocity they were in the range of -21.9 to 22.0%. The changes for mean interaction force were in the range of -5.8 to 11.0%, while for the maximal interaction force, they were in the range of -7.8 to 14.4%. These changes might pose significant challenges for future developments of hybrid robotic-FES rehabilitation systems, as the system must be able to comply with the observed changes, and appropriately adapt to them in order to maintain efficacy and safety.

Integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs) have emerged as the first-line choice for treating human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection due to their superior efficacy and safety. However, the impact of INSTIs on the development of neuropsychiatric conditions in people living with HIV (PLWH) is not fully understood due to limited data. In this study, we conducted a cross-sectional examination of PLWH receiving antiretroviral therapy, with a specific focus on HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM) on INSTI-based regimens (n = 61) and efavirenz (EFV)-based regimens (n = 28).

Backgound: Gentiopicroside (GSP) have been proven to accelerate the healing of diabetic ulcers (DU), but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study aims to explore the mechanism by which GSP accelerates the healing of DU.
Method: The targets of GSP were firstly predicted using the SuperPred, SwissTargetPrediction, and Pharmmapper databases; DU-related transcriptome data were obtained from the GEO database, including GSE147890, GSE68183, and GSE199939; differential expression analysis was conducted using the Limma package, and DU-related targets were identified after summarization and de-duplication.

Grains are an energy source for human beings, and the two main components-starch and protein-determine the application of grains in food. The structure and properties of starch play a decisive role in determining processing characteristics, nutritional properties, and application in grain-based foods. The interaction of proteins with starch greatly affects the structure, physicochemical, and digestive properties of the starch matrix.

Magnetorheological elastomers (MREs) are smart composite materials with tunable mechanical properties by ferromagnetic particle interactions. This study applied the microstructure-based dipole and Maxwell methods to evaluate the magneto-mechanical coupling and magnetostrictive responses of MREs, focusing on various particle distributions. The finite element modeling of representative volume elements with fixed volume fractions revealed that the straight chain microstructure exhibits the most significant magnetostrictive effect due to its low initial shear stiffness and significant magnetic force contributions.

In the undertaken research, we investigated the preparation route's influence mainly on the surface properties of the final form of Mg-containing zeolite Y. The parent zeolite was subjected to modification with aqueous solutions of magnesium nitrate via impregnation, ion-exchange, and ultrasonic techniques, respectively. The results obtained from the Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Computer Tomography (CT), and crystallinity evaluations indicated that the method of zeolite modification influenced the physicochemical properties of the studied samples.
