We report a case of a 26-year-old male patient with an incidental finding of a flesh-colored tumor with few vellus hairs on its surface, located on the fornix and the tarsal conjunctiva of the left lower eyelid. Histology of the biopsy showed a choristoma consisting of abundant vellus hairs, sebaceous glands, and sparse lacrimal gland tissue. Recognition of conjunctival vellus hairs is significant and raises the suspected diagnosis of choristoma, which can be confirmed by a small sample biopsy. A complete excision is unnecessary and possible surgical complications can be prevented. Choristomas of the tarsal conjunctiva are very rare and, to our knowledge, this is the first histological documentation of a choristoma containing vellus hair located on the tarsal conjunctiva. In addition, we review the histopathological findings of choristomas and their differential diagnoses.

Microvilli are bristle-like protuberances of the plasma membrane, which express the vitality of mucous and epithelial cells; their alteration indicates a condition of cellular suffering in a predictive sense, making it possible to establish how much an inflammatory state or toxic conditions affect cellular functionality. In this article, the authors evaluate the applications of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) examination to impression cytology (IC) of the bulbar conjunctiva for the assessment of microvillar alteration as an early ultrastructural indicator of ocular surface health. This method offers several advantages, starting with its simplicity: it involves the non-invasive application of a strip of bibulous paper to the bulbar or tarsal conjunctiva.

This study aimed to describe the morphological features and microstructure of the upper, lower, and third eyelids of the black-winged kite, Elanus caeruleus, and to characterize the organized lymphoid follicles and lymphocytes in the eyelid mucosa. Additionally, it aimed to illustrate the importance of the eye adnexa in the eye's immune protection. The upper, lower, and third eyelids display varying morphological differences that seem to be closely linked to the birds' way of life, indicating adjustments to their environment and eating behaviors.

Purpose: To report the long-term surgical outcomes of acquired ankyloblepharon correction using mucous membrane graft.
Methods: Five eyes of 4 patients (median age, 19 years) with acquired ankyloblepharon were managed using eyelid splitting and mucous membrane graft anchored to the recti muscles on the bulbar surface in the respective quadrant and onto the bare tarsal surface. Outcome measures include a change in the palpebral fissure width, ability to fit scleral contact lenses, visual acuity, and cosmesis.

A 40-year-old woman presented with a mass in her OS for 2 years. Examination revealed a large conjunctival lesion on the nasal bulbar conjunctiva OS and a small upper tarsal conjunctival lesion in the OD. Biopsy OD revealed inflammatory granulation tissue, and OS revealed pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia with granulation tissue.

Allergic conjunctivitis (AC) is characterized by inflammatory responses in the conjunctiva and is often complicated by atopic dermatitis and mechanical irritation. Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC), a severe subtype of AC, presents unique challenges in its diagnosis and management, particularly in pediatric patients. This case report describes an eight-year-old girl with VKC who exhibited poor adherence to a prescribed regimen of 0.
