Chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) is a common chronically digestive disease which is notoriously characterized by atrophy of the epithelium and glands of the gastric mucosa, reduced number, thinning of the gastric mucosa, thickening of the mucosal base, or pyloric glandular hyperplasia and intestinal glandular hyperplasia, or with atypical hyperplasia. Banxia Xiexin decoction (BXD) has been applied for two thousand years and is considered an effective therapy for functional dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease and colon cancer. In this current study, to probe into the underlying mechanism of BXD on CAG, network pharmacology was conducted to collect druggable ingredients and predicted targets of BXD and the CAG-associated targets were harvested to take intersection with druggable ingredients from BXD predicted targets to obtain potential critical action targets. Subsequently, GO enrichment analysis and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis were conducted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and roles from the perspective of overall pathways and cellular functions. Eventually, molecular docking integrated with molecular dynamics simulations was conducted to further investigate the mechanism of action of BXD active ingredients on CAG from drug molecule-target interactions and to provide a theoretical basis for BXD drug development.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Banxia Xiexin Decoction (BXD) is a traditional herbal formulation with a bitter flavor that has a long-standing history of use in Asia for treating functional dyspepsia (FD). In traditional Chinese medicine, the bitter flavor is believed to play a critical role in the therapeutic activity of BXD. The ethnopharmacological properties of bitter plant extracts are closely associated with their anti-inflammatory effects, which may contribute to their efficacy in FD.

Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) represents the common gastrointestinal side effect for cancer patients. Xiao-Ban-Xia decoction (XBXD), a classical anti-emetic traditional Chinese medicine formula, is frequently used for the clinical treatment of CINV. Background: In China banxia xiexin decoction (BXD) has been used in treating gastric cancer (GC) for thousands of years and BXD has a good role in reversing GC histopathology, but its chemical composition and action mechanism are still unknown.
Aim: To investigate the mechanism of action of BXD against GC based on transcriptomics, network pharmacology, and experiments.
Methods: The transplanted tumor model was prepared, and the nude mouse were pathologically examined after administration, and hematoxylin-eosin staining was performed.
Unlabelled: This study aimed to explore the protective mechanism of Banxia Xiexin Tang (BXXXT) on liver cell damage caused by high glucose (H-G) and to clarify its molecular regulatory pathways. First, the main components in BXXXT-containing serum were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to provide basic data for subsequent experiments. Subsequently, the effect of BXXXT on high glucose (H-G)-induced hepatocyte activity was evaluated through screening of the optimal concentration of drug-containing serum.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Banxia Xiexin Decoction (BXD) is one of the seven classic prescriptions of the special decoction method (SDM) of "removing dregs and decocting again", which has been widely used in inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis (UC). However, the impacts of SDM have not been fully investigated, either on the components or on the biological effects.
Aim Of The Study: This study aimed to investigate the rational of SDM traditionally recorded about BXD, re-decoction after dreg-removal, by comparing with the contemporary general decoction method (GDM) from the perspective of phase states, in the bioactive components from the perspective of phase states, and their corresponding pharmacodynamic effects on a particular UC rat model.
