Pilomatrixoma is a follicular benign tumor of unknown etiology that originates in the matrix of a hair follicle. It develops more frequently in children and young adults, with a slight predominance in female patients. It is a slow-growing tumor that presents as a mobile nodule, firm, and with well-defined borders. The present study aimed to report the clinical, histopathologic, and radiographic aspects of pilomatrixoma in the cheek area of a 20-year-old female patient as the established treatment at an oral maxillofacial department. Pilomatrixoma is rarely included in the differential diagnosis of masses and nodules in the skin, and it is often confused with other nodular lesions, such as epidermoid cysts. The diagnostic method to identify this entity is an incisional biopsy. Because of its high incidence in the head and neck region, oral surgeons should be well-acquainted with this type of tumor so that it can be included as a diagnostic hypothesis of masses and nodules of the head and neck.

Background: As pilomatricoma is a common adnexal skin tumor often occurring in exposed areas, dermatologists focus on minimizing postsurgical scarring.
Methods: This retrospective study included patients aged < 19 years who underwent surgical treatment for pilomatricoma at a single university hospital from 2015 to 2021. Patient demographics, tumor characteristics, and surgical outcomes were analyzed according to the surgical methods including punch incision and elliptical excision.

A 23-year-old man presenting with a 1-year history of a lesion of the right cheek. We highlight this case for awareness as this tumour may mimic other benign lesions, such as pilomatrixoma or benign cysts, as it does not have any uniquely identifying clinical or dermoscopic features. Additionally, it is of concern as malignant transformation can occur and therefore surgery should be considered as both for diagnostic and therapeutic benefit.

There are a number of benign tumors of the nose and pharynx that are seldomly reported in literature but that can sometimes prove difficult to treat and extremely important for differential diagnosis. The present study presents cases of rare benign tumors localized in the pharynx, nasal and sinus cavities, as well as reviews of literature and historical references for each type of tumor. Unilateral nasal hemangioma in a 72-year-old male which, although not a rare pathology, raised problems due to auto-resection of the tumor.
