Cochlear implant (CI) users often produce different vocal pitches when using their left versus right CI. One possible explanation for this is that insertion depth differs across the two CIs. The goal of this study was to investigate the role of electrode insertion depth in the production of vocal pitch. Eleven individuals with bilateral CIs used maps simulating differences in insertion depth. Participants produced a sustained vowel and sang Happy Birthday. Approximately half the participants significantly shifted the pitch of their voice in response to different simulated insertion depths. The results suggest insertion depth differences can alter produced vocal pitch.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are coordination polymers that can generally be described by secondary building units (SBUs). These include lanthanide MOFs, specifically mixed lanthanide MOFs (m-LnMOFs), encompassing coordination polymers formed by two or more different Ln ions. These compounds have been the subject of study by inorganic chemists worldwide, mainly due to the possibility of obtaining long-awaited tunable luminescence, i.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers high-quality soft tissue imaging without radiation exposure, which allows stereotactic techniques to significantly improve outcomes in cranial surgeries, particularly in deep brain stimulation (DBS) procedures. However, conventional stereotactic neurosurgeries often rely on mechanical stereotactic head frames and preoperative imaging, leading to suboptimal results due to the invisibility and the contact with patient's head, which may cause additional harm. This paper presents a frameless, MRI-guided stereotactic neurosurgical robotic system.

Palmoplantar hyperhidrosis is a functional disease with an unknown pathogenesis, making it challenging to find a lasting and effective treatment. This article reports a case of a 43-year-old patient with palmoplantar hyperhidrosis treated with computed tomography (CT)-guided radiofrequency neurotomy (RFN) of bilateral T3-4 sympathetic chain combined with bilateral L3 sympathetic ganglion. The optimal puncture level and skin entry point were selected, and measurements were taken using a CT tool to determine needle depth, angle, and distance from the midline.

Cauda equina nerve roots may become damaged during neuraxial anesthesia, and post-puncture headache may appear in the case of cerebrospinal fluid leakage if needle tips are deformed due to bone contact when several attempts are needed. Our aim was to verify the correlation between skin-transverse process distance (st) and skin-dural sac distance (d) for calculation of optimal angles in a free visual guide and as a reference for the maximal depth to be traversed by the needle. Randomly selected ex vivo samples ( = 10) were flexed to reproduce the position of the lumbosacral spine during spinal anesthesia.

Pyrotinib, a novel pan-HER tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has demonstrated substantial anti-tumor activity in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harboring HER2 mutations. However, the inevitable resistance to pyrotinib necessitates an in-depth understanding of the underlying mechanisms. In this study, potential resistance-associated mutations were identified through genomic sequencing of clinically paired samples and were validated using in vitro and in vivo models.
