anthocyanins (AMAs), as a natural plant extract, can control pathogens and are attracting increasing attention. However, at the proteomic level, the antibacterial mechanism of AMAs against O157: H7 remains unclear. In this study, the tandem mass tag (TMT) quantitative proteomics was used to elucidate the potential antibacterial mechanisms of AMAs against O157: H7 cells. Ultrastructural observation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels detection showed that AMAs destroyed the integrity of O157: H7 cell membrane, led to the aggregation of contents and caused the increase of intracellular ROS level. TMT-based proteomic analysis suggested that AMAs can enter cells through mechanosensitive channels and inhibit the activity of heat shock proteins; disturb the metabolism of carbohydrates, amino acids and lipids in cells. The results of this study provide a reference for the further development of plant-derived antimicrobial agents.

Introduction: Tuberculosis remains a major public health problem, primarily in low- and middle-income countries. Evaluating treatment outcomes and investigating factors associated with them are essential for the treatment and control of tuberculosis. Hence, this study aims to assess the TB treatment outcomes and associated factors in Bosaso, Puntland, Somalia.

Interventional catheters have been widely applied in diagnostics, therapeutics, and other biomedical areas. The complications caused by catheter-related bacterial infection, venous thrombosis, and vascular abrasion have become the main reasons for the failure of interventional therapy. In this study, polyacrylamide/poly(acrylic acid) lubricating copolymer brushes were constructed on the surface of catheters and efficiently resisted the adhesion of blood components and bacteria through hydration and electrostatic repulsion effects.

Implants aim to restore skeletal dysfunction associated with ageing and trauma, yet infection and ineffective immune responses can lead to failure. This project characterized the microbiological and host cell responses to titanium alloy with or without electroplated metallic copper. Bacterial viability counting and scanning electron microscopy quantified and visualized the direct and indirect bactericidal effects of the Cu-electroplated titanium (Cu-Ep-Ti) against two different Staphylococcus aureus strains.

Chitosan, a multifaceted amino polysaccharide biopolymer derived from chitin, has extensive antibacterial efficacy against diverse pathogenic microorganisms, including both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, in addition to fungi. Over the course of the last several decades, chitosan nanoparticles (NPs), which are polymeric and bio-based, have garnered a great deal of interest as efficient antibacterial agents. This is mostly due to the fact that they are used in a wide variety of applications, including medical treatments, food, chemicals, and agricultural products.
