Scaling up the production of functional reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and its composites requires the use of low-cost, simple, and sustainable synthesis methods, and renewable feedstocks. In this study, silver oxide-decorated rGO (AgO-rGO) composites were prepared by open-air combustion of mustard oil, essential oil-containing cooking oil commercially produced from the seeds of . Silver oxide (AgO) nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized using leaf extract as a reducing agent. Formation of mustard seed rGO and AgO NPs was confirmed by UV-visible characteristic peaks at 258 nm and 444 nm, respectively. rGO had a flake-like morphology and a crystalline structure, with Raman spectra showing clear D and G bands with an I/I ratio of 0.992, confirming the fewer defects in the as-prepared mustard oil-derived rGO (M-rGO). The rGO-AgO composite showed a degradation efficiency of 81.9% with a rate constant of 0.9506 min for the sodium salt of benzidinediazo-bis-1-naphthylamine-4-sulfonic acid (known as the azo dye Congo Red) in an aqueous solution under visible light irradiation. The composite also showed some antimicrobial activity against , , and bacterial cells, with inhibition zones of ~15, 18, and 14 mm, respectively, for a concentration of 300 µg/mL. At 600 µg/mL concentration, the composite also showed moderate scavenging activity for 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl of ~30.6%, with significantly lower activities measured for AgO (at ~18.1%) and rGO (~8%) when compared to control.

This report investigates the preparation, characterization, and application of activated carbon derived from Spathodea campanulata flowers (SCAC) to remove Congo Red (CR) dye from aqueous streams. SCAC was synthesized using orthophosphoric acid activation which yielded a mesoporous material with a specific surface area of (986.41 m/g), significantly exceeding values reported for flower-derived activated carbons in the available literature.

Objective: To assess the effectiveness of labial minor salivary gland biopsy (LSGB) alone or in combination with punch skin biopsy (SB) for the detection of amyloid deposits in hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis with polyneuropathy (ATTRv-PN).
Methods: In this single-center retrospective study, Congo red staining of minimal invasive LSGB (4 mm) and SB (3 mm) was assessed in ATTRv-PN patients consecutively evaluated between 2012 and 2023.
Results: Histopathological data of 171 ATTRv-PN, including 49 early-onset p.

A catalytic system has been developed, utilizing metal nanoparticles confined within a chitosan‑carbon black composite hydrogel (M-CH/CB), aimed at improving ease of use and recovery in catalytic processes. The M-CH/CBs were characterized by XRD, SEM, and EDX, the M-CH/CB system demonstrated exceptional catalytic activity in producing hydrogen gas (H) from water and methanol, and in reducing several hazardous materials including 2-nitrophenol (2-NP), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), 2,6-dinitrophenol (2,6-DNP), acridine orange (ArO), methyl orange (MO), congo red (CR), methylene blue (MB), and potassium ferricyanide (PFC). Among the tested nanocatalysts, CH/CB showed the highest efficiency for H₂ production, while Fe-CH/CB excelled in contaminant reduction (7.

A polyethyleneimine (PEI)-assisted simple and efficient one-pot hydrothermal reduction method is reported to prepare high-quality gold nanodendrites (AuNDs) on a carbon nanotube (CNT) sheet. We observed that the prepared AuNDs have a well-defined backbone-multiple branching structure. With the systematical investigation of the growth mechanism, it was found that the bromide (Br) ion concentration has an essential effect on the formation of AuNDs.
