To date, drugs released into the aquatic environment are a real problem, and among antibiotics, sulfamethoxazole is the one most widely found in wastewater; thus, the evaluation of its toxicity on marine organisms is very important. This study, for the first time, investigates the in vitro effects of 4 concentrations of sulfamethoxazole (0.05 mg/L, 0.5 mg/L, 5 mg/L, 50 mg/L) on the fertilization and development of the sea urchin . The gametes were exposed to drugs in three different stages: simultaneously with, prior to, and post-fertilization. The results show a significant reduction in the percentage of fertilized oocytes at the highest drug concentrations. Moreover, an increase in anomalies and delays in embryo development following the treatment with the drug was demonstrated. Therefore, the data suggest that this antibiotic can alter the development of marine organisms, making it urgent to act to reduce their release and to determine the concentration range with the greatest impact.

Objective: Ventricular shunt insertion is a common procedure in pediatric neurosurgical practice. In many areas of medicine there is a push toward rationalization of healthcare resources and a reduction in low-value tests or procedures. The intraoperative sampling of CSF at the time of shunt insertion is one traditional aspect of care that has not been rigorously evaluated.

Herein, novel thiazolo[4,5-]quinoxalin-2-ones 2-6 and thiazolo[4,5-]quinoxalin-2(3)-imines 7-9 were synthesized and characterized using elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and H/C NMR to confirm their structures. The efficacy of the newly designed thiazolo-quinoxalines 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, and 9 against the cotton leafworm (2nd and 4th instar larvae) was evaluated, and results revealed insecticidal activity with variable and good mortality percentages. A SAR study was also discussed.

Anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions have been increasing rapidly in recent years, driving pH and oxygen levels to record low concentrations in the oceans. Eastern boundary upwelling systems such as the California Current System (CCS) experience exacerbated ocean acidification and hypoxia (OAH) due to the physical and chemical properties of the transported deeper waters. Research efforts have significantly increased in recent years to investigate the deleterious effects of climate change on marine species, but have not focused on the impacts of simultaneous OAH stressor exposure.

Sulfoxaflor (SFX) is an insecticide that is commonly used for the control of sap-feeding insects. Since SFX is extensively applied globally, it has been implicated in the substantial induction of environmental toxicity. Therefore, in this study, Allium cepa roots have been employed to elucidate the potential cytogenotoxic effects of SFX in non-target cells by examination of mitotic index (MI), chromosomal aberrations (CAs), and DNA damage.

Background And Objectives: Initially described as a benign acute cardiomyopathy, Takotsubo syndrome has been linked to elevated mortality rates. Emerging evidence suggests that unresolved myocardial inflammation may contribute to this adverse prognosis. This study aimed to evaluate the incremental prognostic utility of C-reactive protein (CRP) in conjunction with the InterTAK prognosis score for stratifying long-term mortality in Takotsubo syndrome.
