Background Objective: Residual limb pain (RLP) and phantom pain can arise following amputation and may require additional treatment or surgery. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of neuropathic RLP following limb amputation and identify prognostic factors for the development of neuropathic RLP.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed of patients who underwent upper or lower extremity amputation between 1990 and 2021 with a minimum of twelve months follow-up.

Background: The Abbreviated Burn Severity Index (ABSI) is a five-variable scale to help evaluate burn severity upon initial assessment. As other studies have been conducted with comparatively small patient populations, the purpose of this study is to revalidate the prognostic relevance of the ABSI in our selected population (N = 1193) 4 decades after its introduction, considering the progress in the treatment of severe burn injuries over the past decades. In addition, we evaluate whether comorbidities influence the survival probability of severely burned patients.

Objective: We aimed to revalidate the chemotherapy response score (CRS) system as a prognostic factor for ovarian cancer patients with breast cancer gene () mutations or those receiving frontline poly-ADP ribose polymerase (PARP) inhibitors or bevacizumab as maintenance therapy.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed using medical records of patients with high-grade serous carcinoma who received neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by interval debulking surgery between January 2007 and December 2021 at 5 tertiary medical institutions in South Korea. At each hospital, pathologists independently assessed each slide of omental tissues obtained from surgery using the CRS system.

Context: Mortality in type 2 diabetes is twice that of the normoglycemic population. Unravelling biomarkers that identify high-risk patients for referral to the most aggressive and costly prevention strategies is needed.

Objective: To validate in type 2 diabetes the association with all-cause mortality of a 14-metabolite score (14-MS) previously reported in the general population and whether this score can be used to improve well-established mortality prediction models.

Impact of myocardial deformation on risk prediction in patients following acute myocardial infarction.

Front Cardiovasc Med

Department of Cardiology and Pneumology, University Medical Center Göttingen, Georg-August University, Göttingen, Germany.

Background: Strain analyses derived from cardiovascular magnetic resonance-feature tracking (CMR-FT) provide incremental prognostic benefit in patients sufferring from acute myocardial infarction (AMI). This study aims to evaluate and revalidate previously reported prognostic implications of comprehensive strain analyses in a large independent cohort of patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Methods: Overall, 566 STEMI patients enrolled in the CONDITIONING-LIPSIA trial including pre- and/or postconditioning treatment in addition to conventional percutaneous coronary intervention underwent CMR imaging in median 3 days after primary percutaneous coronary intervention.
