Introduction: Our work was aimed at determining the sensitivity and specificity of anterior segment OCT (AS-OCT) in the evaluation of the iridocorneal angle (ICA) in Cameroon.

Methodology: We conducted a cross-sectional, analytical study from January 2 to June 30, 2019 in Yaoundé. One hundred and twenty five patients over 35 years of age underwent three-mirror manual glass gonioscopy and AS-OCT. The angle was defined as occludable on manual gonioscopy if the posterior trabecular meshwork, was not visible and on OCT if there was contact between the iris root and the posterior surface of the peripheral cornea. Quantitative parameters (angle opening distance, angle recess area, and trabecular-iris space area) in the nasal and temporal quadrants were recorded for the analysis.

Results: Men accounted for 56.20% of the 96 patients selected (192 eyes). The mean age was 54.78±10 years. The prevalence of occludable angles was 18.75% (18/96 patients) and 28.125% (27/96 patients) on manual and automated gonioscopy respectively. Schaeffer-Etienne grades ≤ 2 were identified in 43/192 (21.94%) nasal quadrants and 33/192 (19.18%) temporal quadrants. The area under the curve (AUC) was maximal for the 500 μm goniometric parameters (> 0.8). An Angle Opening Distance ≤ 333.50 μm was found in 52/192 nasal quadrants (27.10%) and 53/192 (27.60%) temporal. The sensitivity and specificity of AS-OCT in the detection of occludable angles at 500 μm, were 62.8% and 83.2% respectively in the nasal quadrant, and 66.7% and 80.5% respectively in the temporal quadrant. There was a positive correlation between goniometric parameters on AS-OCT and gonioscopy (P=0.01).

Conclusion: Given its higher specificity, AS-OCT should be a supplemental examination in the analysis of an angle which appears closed on manual gonioscopy.

Laboratory of Veterinary Surgery and Ophthalmology, College of Veterinary Medicine, Chungbuk National University, Cheongju, Republic of Korea.

Introduction: This study aimed to examine the relationship between the relative opening of the ICA (RO-ICA) and the structure of the ciliary cleft (CC) using Ultrasound Biomicroscopy (UBM).

Materials And Methods: Clinical data from 31 eyes of 17 dogs at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Chungbuk National University, Korea, were analyzed. RO-ICA was categorized as "Slightly Narrow", "Narrow", "Open", and "Wide Open", with eyes further grouped into "Narrow" (including Slightly Narrow and Narrow) and "Open" (including Open and Wide Open) for analysis.

Purpose: This study aims to present a case involving intermittent bleeding from the iridocorneal angle following gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) surgery, followed by the development of ghost cell glaucoma (GCG).

Methods: A 25-year-old man with a history of post-traumatic angle recession glaucoma underwent uneventful 360° GATT surgery.

Results: Two weeks after the surgery, while the reason for the incomplete resolution of hyphema remained unclear, intermittent bleeding from the iridocorneal angle and hemorrhage in the inferior vitreous were observed during the patient's follow-up examination.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of upper eyelid blepharoplasty with or without the removal of a strip of orbicularis oculi muscle on corneal topographic parameters, anterior segment parameters, intraocular pressure, and ocular biometry.

Method: This prospective study examined 428 eyes of 214 patients with dermatochalasis. Patients were divided into two groups randomly: those who underwent orbicularis oculi muscle excision (Group 1) during blepharoplasty and those who did not (Group 2).

Article Synopsis
  • A 15-day-old male infant with Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome (RTS) was diagnosed with unilateral congenital glaucoma in his left eye, presenting with corneal enlargement and haze.
  • Imaging showed significant eye abnormalities, including iris atrophy and adhesions related to a cataractous lens.
  • Genetic testing revealed a new harmful variant in the CREBBP gene, and treatment involved a laser procedure to manage intraocular pressure.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared anterior segment parameters before and after cataract surgery in patients with acute primary angle closure (APAC) and their fellow eyes that were classified as primary angle closure suspects (PACS), using advanced imaging technology called AS-OCT.
  • Results showed that both APAC and PACS eyes had improvements in anterior chamber depth and volume after surgery, while some parameters like lens vault and iris contact decreased.
  • Overall, APAC eyes experienced a significant decrease in intraocular pressure and improvement in visual acuity, while PACS eyes showed notable improvements in vision as well, with better outcomes observed in the PACS group.
