Large volcanic eruptions, although rare events, can influence the chemistry and the dynamics of the stratosphere for several years after the eruption. Here we show that the eruption of the submarine volcano Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai on 15 January 2022 injected at least 50 teragrams of water vapor directly into the stratosphere. This event raised the amount of water vapor in the developing stratospheric plume by several orders of magnitude and possibly increased the amount of global stratospheric water vapor by more than 5%. This extraordinary eruption may have initiated an atmospheric response different from that of previous well-studied large volcanic eruptions.

Background: Neither the actual in vivo tissue temperatures reached with a novel contact force sensing catheter with a mesh-shaped irrigation tip (TactiFlex SE, Abbott) nor the safety profile has been elucidated.
Methods: In a porcine model (n = 8), thermocouples were implanted epicardially in the superior vena cava, right pulmonary vein, and esophagus close to the inferior vena cava following a right thoracotomy. After chest closure, endocardial ablation was conducted near the thermocouples under fluoroscopic guidance.

This study aimed to fabricate edible films from tapioca (T) and potato (P) starch, assessing their physicochemical properties and biodegradation across different ratios (T100P0, T70P30, T50P50, and T30P70). The films underwent evaluation for moisture content, thickness, water vapor permeability, and color values. T100P0 and T30P70 formulations exhibited the highest film transparency at 43.

The direct conversion of dinitrogen to nitrate is a dream reaction to combine the Haber-Bosch and Ostwald processes as well as steam reforming using electrochemistry in a single process. Regrettably, the corresponding nitrogen oxidation (NOR) reaction is hampered by a selectivity problem, since the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is both thermodynamically and kinetically favored in the same potential range. This opens the search for the identification of active and selective NOR catalysts to enable nitrate production under anodic reaction conditions.

The thermal dehydration of sodium carbonate monohydrate (SC-MH) exhibits kinetic characteristics that are typical of the thermal decomposition of solids with a reversible nature. One of the characteristics is the physico-geometrical constraints of the reaction due to the heterogeneous reaction feature. Another factor is the considerable impact of the atmospheric and self-generated water vapor on the kinetics.
