sp-carbon-linked covalent organic frameworks (spc-COFs) are crystalline porous polymers with repeat organic units linked by sp carbons, and have attracted increasing interest due to their robust skeleton and tunable semiconducting properties. Single-crystalline spc-COFs with well-defined structures can represent an ideal platform for investigating fundamental physics properties and device performance. However, the robust olefin bonds inhibit the reversible-reaction-based crystal self-correction, thus yielding polycrystalline or amorphous polymers.

Context: Hydrogen storage in porous nanostructured compounds have recently attracted a lot of attention due to the fact that the underlying adsorption mechanism and thermodynamics provide suitable platform for room temperature adsorption and desorption of H molecules. This work reports the findings of a study on the reversible hydrogen storage capacities of Sc and Y decorated C fullerene, conducted using dispersion-corrected density functional theory (DFT) calculation. The transition metal (TM) atoms, such as Sc and Y, are identified to attach to the C-C bridge position of the C fullerene through non-covalent closed-shell interactions.

Kinetics of human insulin degradation in the solid-state: An investigation of the effects of temperature and humidity.

J Pharm Sci

December 2024

SSPC Centre for Pharmaceutical Research, School of Pharmacy, University College Cork, Cork T12 YT20, Ireland. Electronic address:

With the increasing development of oral peptide dosage forms, a comprehensive understanding of factors affecting peptide drug stability in the solid-state is critical. This study used human insulin, as a model peptide, to examine the individual and interactive effects of temperature and humidity on its solid-state stability. Insulin was stored at temperature (25 °C, 40 °C, and 6 °C) and humidity (1 %, 33 % and 75 %) over 6 months.

The UFMylation pathway is impaired in Alzheimer's disease.

Mol Neurodegener

December 2024

Department of Neuroscience, Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, FL, 32224, USA.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the presence of neurofibrillary tangles made of hyperphosphorylated tau and senile plaques composed of beta-amyloid. These pathognomonic deposits have been implicated in the pathogenesis, although the molecular mechanisms and consequences remain undetermined. UFM1 is an important, but understudied ubiquitin-like protein that is covalently attached to substrates.
