Although metal organic frameworks (MOFs) and covalent organic frameworks (COFs) have been extensively used as fluorescent-based antibiotic sensors, newly developed hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs) are largely unexplored toward this direction. To realize this, the luminescent HOFs must be stable in water as the analytes are mostly found in water-based effluents in environments. In addition, HOFs should be equipped with specific recognition sites in order to direct the discrimination among the antibiotics.

Advances in TENGs for Marine Energy Harvesting and In Situ Electrochemistry.

Nanomicro Lett

January 2025

School of Electronic and Information Engineering, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, 100044, People's Republic of China.

The large-scale use of ample marine energy will be one of the most important ways for human to achieve sustainable development through carbon neutral development plans. As a burgeoning technological method for electromechanical conversion, triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has significant advantages in marine energy for its low weight, cost-effectiveness, and high efficiency in low-frequency range. It can realize the efficient and economical harvesting of low-frequency blue energy by constructing the floating marine energy harvesting TENG.

Solvent Effect on Antimicrobial Hydrophilic Xerogel Coating of Medicinal Leathers in Simulated Industrial Finishing Process.

Chempluschem

January 2025

NCSR Demokritos: Ethniko Kentro Ereunas Physikon Epistemon Demokritos, Institute of Physical Chemistry, Patriarchou Gregoriou and Neapoleos, Aghia Paraskevi, Attiki, 15310, Athens, GREECE.

The hydrophilic character and the protection against pathogen proliferation are the most pivotal characteristics of leathers intended for medical purposes.  To achieve these goals, dispersions of TiO2 particles incorporating three different formulations of biomimetically synthesized silica xerogels were tested. Emphasis has been given to the role of single and dual solvents employed.

Actualizing sub-bandgap photovoltaic conversion is effective in remitting energy loss and pushing theoretical efficiency limits for perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, a zero-dimensional organic metal halide based on hydroxyquinoline (HQ) is developed to sensitize PSCs for near-infrared region gain to implement sub-bandgap photovoltaic conversion for enhancing power-conversion-efficiency (PCE) of PSCs. [ZnI4]2- skeletons containing heavy atoms intensify the direct singlet-to-triplet state transition of organic chromophores HQ, Meanwhile, the triplet energy of HQ is close to resonance with perovskite bandgap, favoring the energy transfer to perovskite and exciting the additional electron-hole pairs, which was observed by transient absorption spectroscopy, confirming the sensitization of perovskite to increase sub-bandgap photocurrent.

Omnidirectional strain sensing and direction recognition ability are features of the human tactile sense, essential to address the intricate and dynamic requirements of real-world applications. Most of the current strain sensors work by converting uniaxial strain into electrical signals, which restricts their use in environments with multiaxial strain. Here, the first device with simultaneous isotropic omnidirectional hypersensitive strain sensing and direction recognition (IOHSDR) capabilities is introduced.
