Tuberculosis (TB) remains a global threat and there is an urgent need for improved drugs and treatments, particularly against the drug-resistant strains of (Mtb). Graphene oxide (GO) is an innovative bi-dimensional nanomaterial that when administered accumulates in the lungs. Further, GO is readily degraded by peroxidases and has a high drug loading capacity and antibacterial properties. In this study, we first evaluated the GO anti-mycobacterial properties using (Ms) as a model. We observed that GO, when administered with the bacteria, was able to trap Ms in a dose-dependent manner, reducing entry of bacilli into macrophages. However, GO did not show any anti-mycobacterial activity when used to treat infected cells or when macrophages were pre-treated before infection. Similar results were obtained when the virulent Mtb strain was used, showing that GO was able to trap Mtb and prevent entry into microphages. These results indicate that GO can be a promising tool to design improved therapies against TB.

The broader use of botanical pesticides has been limited by shorter residual activity on plants, slower onset of action, and higher costs compared with conventional pesticides. These challenges could be overcome by the development of simple, cost-effective, and long-lasting preventive nanocomposites for botanical pesticides. In this study, we successfully developed a low-cost ethyl cellulose (EC)-based delivery system for the botanical pesticide osthole (OST), designed to provide extended preventive protection against infestations.

In this study, a Pd nanoparticles@hydrogen-bonded organic framework (Pd NPs@HOF) thin film was fabricated at the toluene-water interface. The HOF was formed through the interaction of trimesic acid (TMA) and melamine (Mel) in the water phase, while Pd(0) was produced from the reduction of [PdCl(cod)] in the organic phase. The as-synthesized Pd NPs@HOF thin film was demonstrated to be an effective catalyst for the selective reduction of -nitrophenol and -nitrophenol to -aminophenol and -aminophenol.

The potential of epoxy-graphene oxide (GO) nanocomposites to improve the mechanical characteristics of conventional epoxy resins is causing them to gain prominence. This makes them appropriate for advanced engineering applications, including structural materials, automotive, and aerospace. This study aimed to develop an epoxy/GO composite with improved mechanical properties through synthesizing epoxy/GO samples with varying GO content (from 0.

Millions of patients and their caretakers live and deal with the devastating consequences of spinal cord injury (SCI) worldwide. Despite outstanding advances in the field to both understand and tackle these pathologies, a cure for SCI patients, with their peculiar characteristics, is still a mirage. One of the most promising therapeutic strategies to date for these patients involves the use of epidural electrical stimulation.

The detection of mercury ions (Hg) is crucial due to its harmful effects on health and environment. In this article, what we believe to be a novel dual-mode optical fiber sensor incorporating surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) is proposed for ultra-trace Hg detection. The sensing probe comprises gold (Au)/graphene oxide (GO) composite membrane structure and Au nanospheres (AuNPs), which are connected via double-stranded DNA.
