Previous evidence highlights the important role of knee joint malalignment and excessive joint moments for the development to knee osteoarthritis. The present study aimed to systematically investigate the interrelationship between three-dimensional knee kinematics during walking and stair climbing and ex-vivo electromechanical measured cartilage quality in 119 patients with end-stage knee osteoarthritis. Patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty surgery underwent radiographic assessment and biomechanical analysis in gait and stair climbing assessing in vivo knee joint angles and moments during movement dynamics prior to surgery.

Purpose: Conjunctival autografts (CAGs) are the gold standard treatment after pterygium resection, but it is challenging to achieve consistently thin Tenon-free CAGs with manual dissection. We herein report the reproducibility and clinical outcomes of a novel algorithm to produce customizable trapezoidal CAGs using femtosecond laser (femtosecond lasers)-assisted pterygium surgery.

Methods: We first tested this algorithm in 4 pig eyes to show reproducibility.

A*STAR Skin Research Labs (A*SRL), Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), 31 Biopolis Way, #07-01, Nanos, Singapore, 138669, Republic of Singapore.

Purpose: Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC), the most common subtype of non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC), is prevalent worldwide and poses significant challenges due to their increasing incidence and complex treatment considerations. Existing clinical approaches, such as Mohs micrographic surgery, are time-consuming and labour-intensive, requiring meticulous layer-by-layer excision and examination, which can significantly extend the duration of the procedure. Current optical imaging solutions also lack the necessary spatial resolution, penetration depth, and contrast for effective clinical use.

Background: Trunk reconstruction following sarcoma excision involves significant defects. Pedicled and free latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flap (LDMF) reconstruction is commonly employed for thoracic defects; however, skin paddle design is limited to 10-12 cm to achieve primary donor closure. Paucity of data exists regarding the utility of V-Y advancement of LDMF, previously described for moderately sized thoracic defects.

L-ICG as an optical agent to improve intraoperative margin detection in breast-conserving surgery: a prospective study.

Breast Cancer Res Treat

January 2025

Diagnosis and Treatment Center of Breast Diseases, Shantou Central Hospital, Waima Road 114, Jinping District, Shantou, 515041, China.

Purpose: Precise tumor excision is important in breast-conserving surgery (BCS). This study explores the safety and accuracy of fluorescence image-guided BCS (FIGS) using a lidocaine mucilage-ICG compound (L-ICG).

Methods: 54 patients who underwent BCS from August 2020 to September 2023 were enrolled.
