Published: October 2022

The 3.52-Mbp whole-genome sequence of a sp. strain isolated from soil sediment of the floating islands of Loktak Lake is reported. The genomic information here gives insight into the presence of genes linked to oxidative stress, osmo-protection, and cold shock proteins which helps in the survival of the organism under extreme environmental conditions.

Background: In clinical practice, the emergence of ST11-K64 carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (ST11-K64 CRKP) has become increasingly alarming. Despite this trend, limited research has been conducted to elucidate the clinical and molecular characteristics of these strains.

Objectives: This study aimed to comprehensively investigate the clinical characteristics, antimicrobial resistance patterns, resistance and virulence-associated genes, and molecular epidemiology of ST11-K64 CRKP in Southwest China.

Background: The advent of next generation sequencing technologies has enabled a surge in the number of whole genome sequences in public databases, and our understanding of the composition and evolution of bacterial genomes. Besides model organisms and pathogens, some attention has been dedicated to industrial bacteria, notably members of the Lactobacillaceae family that are commonly studied and formulated as probiotic bacteria. Of particular interest is Lactobacillus acidophilus NCFM, an extensively studied strain that has been widely commercialized for decades and is being used for the delivery of vaccines and therapeutics.

Limnobacter olei sp. nov., a Novel Diesel-Degrading Bacterium Isolated from Oil-Contaminated Soil.

Curr Microbiol

January 2025

Jiangsu Longhuan Environmental Science Co. LTD, Changzhou, 213164, China.

A bacterial strain P1, capable of degrading diesel and converting thiosulfate to sulfate was isolated from an oil-contaminated soil sample. The cells were Gram-stain-negative, slightly curved rods and motile with a single polar flagellum. Growth of the strain was observed at 4-45 °C (optimum at 28 °C), at pH 4.

Diseases that affect the vascular system or the pith are of great economic impact since they can rapidly destroy the affected plants, leading to complete loss in production. Fast and precise identification is thus important to inform containment and management, but many identification methods are slow because they are culture-dependent and they do not reach strain resolution. Here we used culture-independent long-read metagenomic sequencing of DNA extracted directly from stems of two tomato samples that displayed wilt symptoms.
