'Ecological photobiology' session of the Russian Photobiology Society 9th Congress was devoted to a wide range of problems related to the assessment of the environmental state by photobiological methods and included oral presentations and a poster session. A short survey of these presentations is given.

The genome of the mildly thermophilic hot spring purple sulfur bacterium, (.) , contains a multigene family that encodes a series of α- and β-polypeptides, collectively forming a heterogeneous light-harvesting 1 (LH1) complex. The LH1, therefore, offers a unique model for studying an intermediate phenotype between phototrophic thermophilic and mesophilic bacteria, particularly regarding their LH1 transition and moderately enhanced thermal stability.

Mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) are a unique class of UV-screening bioactive molecules with potent antioxidants and photoprotective properties, synthesized by various species of cyanobacteria in different habitats. The cyanobacterial biofilms play a crucial driver in the development of ecological communities. The current study examined the existence of the photoprotective MAAs in a novel epilithic cyanobacterium Lyngbya sp.

Cryptophyte algae are an evolutionarily distinct and ecologically important group of photosynthetic unicellular eukaryotes. Photosystem II (PSII) of cryptophyte algae associates with alloxanthin chlorophyll a/c-binding proteins (ACPs) to act as the peripheral light-harvesting system, whose supramolecular organization is unknown. Here, we purify the PSII-ACPII supercomplex from a cryptophyte alga Chroomonas placoidea (C.

This study evaluates cellular damage, metabolite profiling, and defence-related gene expression in tomato plants and soil microflora during Fusarium wilt disease after treatment with B. tequilensis PBE-1. Histochemical analysis showed that PBE-1 was the primary line of defence through lignin deposition and reduced cell damage.
