Amid the coronavirus disease 2019 era, concern about the safety of surgical teams related to surgical smoke (SS) is rising. As simple ventilation improvement methods (SVIMs), we replaced 4 of the 8 supply diffusers with a direction-adjustable louver-type, closed 2 of the 4 exhaust grills, and strengthened the sealing of the doorway. Dynamic changes in the concentration of particulate matter (PM) with sizes of < 1.0 μm (PM1.0) were measured using low-cost PM meters (LCPMs) at eight locations in the operating room (OR). SS concentration up to 4 minutes at the location of the surgeon, first assistant, and scrub nurse before and after SVIMs application decreased from 65.4, 38.2, 35.7 µg/m to 9.5, 0.1 and 0.7 µg/m respectively. A similar decrease was observed in the other 5 locations. SVIMs could effectively control SS and the LCPM was also effective in measuring SS in the OR or other spaces of the hospital.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of our previously proposed mesiodistal distance for multiple posterior implants on preserving peri-implant bone, and to provide a measurable criterion for predicting implant prognosis.
Methods: One hundred and two patients with dental implants placed in the posterior free-end edentulous arches were recruited in this cross-sectional study. Calibrated X-rays (peri-apical [PA] or bite-wing x-ray) were collected to measure the mesiodistal space as well as the corresponding bone resorption of implants after prosthesis placement.
Aim: Many combinations of inflammation-based markers have been reported their prognostic ability. The prognostic value of albumin-to-gama-glutamyltransferase ratio (AGR), an inflammation-related index, has been identified for several cancers. However, the predictive value of AGR for high-grade glioma patients remains unclear.

Fournier's gangrene (FG) is a type of necrotizing fasciitis affecting the abdomen or perineum. It is a polymicrobial infection that progresses to an obliterating endarteritis, causing thrombosis and subsequent tissue necrosis, allowing pathogenic invasion of interfacial planes.Patients with Fournier's gangrene typically have underlying systemic conditions that cause vascular insufficiencies or immunosuppression.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the impact of upper paratracheal lymph node resection on the prognosis of patients with stage IB non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). A retrospective analysis of 339 patients with upper lobe stage IB NSCLC who underwent surgery at Sun Yat-Sen University Cancer Center (Guangzhou, China) between 1999 and 2009 was conducted. The Cox regression model was used to investigate prognostic factors.

Introduction: Studies have demonstrated successful outcomes with early weightbearing following open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) of specific ankle fractures. The external validity of an early weightbearing protocol and its effects on patient-reported outcome information scores (PROMIS) has yet to be investigated. This study aimed to investigate the effects of an early weightbearing protocol for all operatively treated ankle fractures and its impact on clinical outcomes and complications.
