To develop the application technique of the total artificial heart in humans, it is important to establish a concept about the implantation procedures. Based on cadaver experiments with various types of prosthetic ventricles, some aspects in solving the surgical difficulties were described. Special interest was directed to the geometric topography, the optimal design of the prosthetic ventricles, and the possible surgical solution. Under consideration of spatial differences, especially from that of experimental animals, a proposal was made to place the left and right artificial ventricle with the goal of avoiding compression of the inflow tract or obstruction of the outflow. The design of the connection parts and the angles of the inflow and outflow tracts of the artificial ventricles is essential for good results.

Implantable neural electrodes are key components of brain-computer interfaces (BCI), but the mismatch in mechanical and biological properties between electrode materials and brain tissue can lead to foreign body reactions and glial scarring, and subsequently compromise the long-term stability of electrical signal transmission. In this study, we proposed a new concept for the design and bioaugmentation of implantable electrodes (bio-array electrodes) featuring a heterogeneous gradient structure. Different composite polyaniline-gelatin-alginate based conductive hydrogel formulations were developed for electrode surface coating.

The trans-vessel wall device (TW-device) is a new endovascular tool for precise and safe delivery of various payloads (cells, viral, modified RNA, chemotherapy, growth factors) in oncology and regenerative medicine. The twofold aim of this study was to assess cell engraftment and tumor growth using the TW-device for endovascular transplantation and to evaluate its ability to directly access solid tumors. We used the VX2 model in the rabbit kidney to compare percutaneously implanted fresh VX2 cells with TW-device injections of cryopreserved VX2 cells.

Fast-scan cyclic voltammetry (FSCV) is a widely used electrochemical technique to measure the phasic response of neurotransmitters in the brain. It has the advantage of reducing tissue damage to the brain due to the use of carbon fiber microelectrodes as well as having a high temporal resolution (10 Hz) sufficient to monitor neurotransmitter release in vivo. During the FSCV experiment, the surface of the carbon fiber microelectrode is inevitably changed by the fouling effect.

: Combining autologous fat grafting with implant placement is meant to improve the quality of implant-based breast reconstruction. The present study explores the concept of multi-stage composite breast reconstruction with repeated sessions of autologous fat grafting to increase mastectomy flap thickness and provide better pre-pectoral implant coverage. : Twenty-five consecutive patients underwent bilateral multi-stage composite expander-to-implant breast reconstruction and reverse expansion from August 2020 to April 2024.
