Ectopic Pregnancy.

Obstet Gynecol Clin North Am

Department of OB-GYN, University of Colorado, 12631 East 17th Avenue, AO1, 4th Floor, Aurora, CO 80045, USA.

Published: September 2022

Ectopic pregnancy occurs in 2% of all pregnancies and is a potentially life-threatening emergency. A high level of clinical suspicion is required for any pregnant patient who presents with vaginal bleeding and/or pelvic pain. Workup should begin with immediate triage based on vital signs, a pregnancy test, and transvaginal ultrasound. Ectopic pregnancy can be treated either medically with methotrexate or surgically with either salpingectomy or salpingostomy. Carefully counseled, asymptomatic patients may be candidates for expectant management.

Background: With increasingly restricted access to facility-based abortion in the United States, pregnant people are increasingly relying on models of care that utilize history-based or no-test approaches to eligibility assessment. Minimal research has examined the accuracy of abortion patients' self-assessment of eligibility for medication abortion using their health history, a necessary step towards ensuring optimal access to history-based or no-test models, as well as potential over-the-counter access.

Objective: To examine the accuracy of pregnant people's eligibility for medication abortion determined using their self-reported health history as compared to clinician assessment with ultrasound and other tests.

Background And Objectives: Nutrient supplements are commonly used to improve fertility outcomes by women with infertility trying to conceive spontaneously or utilising medically assisted reproduction (MAR). However, despite their widespread use and perceived safety, there is a lack of clear guidance on the efficacy and safety of these supplements for female infertility. The aim of this umbrella review was to identify the best available and most recent evidence on the efficacy and safety of nutrient supplements for female infertility to provide evidence-based guidance for clinicians and reproductive couples.

Materials And Methods: Totally, 82 patients who met the inclusion criteria were enrolled in our study and divided into two groups. Group I included 50 patients who received uterine artery embolization and ultrasound guided curettage, and Group II had 32 patients who received uterine artery embolization plus methotrexate and ultrasound guided curettage.

Ectopic expression of DNMT3L in human trophoblast stem cells restores features of the placental methylome.

Cell Stem Cell

December 2024

Loke Centre for Trophoblast Research, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK; Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK. Electronic address:

The placental DNA methylation landscape is unique, with widespread partially methylated domains (PMDs). The placental "methylome" is conserved across mammals, a shared feature of many cancers, and extensively studied for links with pregnancy complications. Human trophoblast stem cells (hTSCs) offer exciting potential for functional studies to better understand this epigenetic feature; however, whether the hTSC epigenome recapitulates primary trophoblast remains unclear.
