Published: July 2020

Objective: To isolate the phenolic compounds obtained from the dried roots of and investigate their pharmacological activities.

Methods: The chemical constituents were isolated and purified by combining them with a macroporous resin (DM-8), MCI gel, and Sephadex LH-20 and by performing ODS column chromatography. Their structures were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR analyses, as well as mass spectrometry. The isolated compounds were evaluated to determine their hepatoprotective and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities .

Results: Two phenolic compounds, namely, polygonimitin E () and polygonimitin F (), were isolated from the dried roots of . Compound (10 µmol/L) only showed moderate hepatoprotective activity against -acetyl-p-aminophenol (APAP)-induced HepG2 cell damage. Unfortunately, these two compounds exhibited no α-glucosidase inhibitory activity.

Conclusion: Compounds and were new compounds. Compound could be one of the potential hepatoprotective constituents of .

Ram sperm are more vulnerable to freezing than those of most other farm animals. During sperm freezing, the cell membrane loses some of its cholesterol, which regulates signalling mechanisms and prevents premature capacitation. Resveratrol (RES) increases the fluidity of the cell membrane, which becomes peroxidized during freezing and reduces free radicals.

Trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) is a ubiquitous environmental contaminant; however, its sources are poorly constrained. One understudied source is from the photochemical reactions of aromatic compounds containing -CF moieties (aryl-CF) including many pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals. Here, we studied the aqueous photochemistry of 4-(trifluoromethyl)phenol (4-TFMP), a known transformation product of the pharmaceutical fluoxetine.

In the last few years, many efforts have been devoted to the recovery and valorization of olive oil by-products because of their potentially high biological value. The olive mill wastewater (OMWW), a dark-green brown colored liquid that mainly consists of fruit vegetation water, is particularly exploited in this regard for its great content in phenolic compounds with strong antioxidant properties. In our previous work, we produced different OMWW fractions enriched in hydroxytyrosol- and hydroxytyrosol/oleuropein (i.

Rationale: Astragali radix-Salvia miltiorrhiza (AR-SM) is an herb pair with good therapeutic effects and is widely used. In this study, the in vitro and in vivo components of AR-SM were quickly classified and identified based on UHPLC-orbital mass spectrometry. This provided a basis for clarifying the bioactive substances after compatibility of AR and SM.
