The ozone-activated peroxymonosulfate process (O/PMS) has received increasing attention for the removal of trace organic contaminants (e.g. pesticides and pharmaceuticals) from water bodies. However, the ozone dosing strategy has not yet been properly investigated, especially in real water matrices. Typically, one-step dosing is applied in literature. Nevertheless, optimal dosing is an important step for improving the process. This study investigates the effect of sequential ozone dosing on the PMS activation, atrazine (ATZ) removal, residual ozone concentration and radical exposure, and compares the results to those of a one-step ozone dosing approach. Experiments were performed in three water matrices with a different (in)organic content, i.e. secondary effluent, surface water and groundwater. In all matrices, the highest PMS activation was reached when applying three sequential ozone doses (3 × 5 mg O/L). This resulted in a 3 times higher ATZ removal efficiency (up to 46 %) in secondary effluent compared to that obtained with a one-step ozone dosing (15 mg O/L). In surface water and groundwater, similar ATZ removal (>90 %) was observed among the different ozone dosing strategies. However, the sulfate radical (SO) exposure increased after each ozone addition. After three ozone additions of 5 mg/L, SO contributed for 9 %, 26 % and 54 % to ATZ removal in respectively secondary effluent, surface water and groundwater. This high SO contribution compared to OH contribution is an advantage as the selectivity of SO gives rise to less radical scavenging by bulk organic matter and thus increases the (cost-)effectiveness of the O/PMS process.

The phytotoxic nature of Ozone (O) has been well documented in a number of scientific literatures during the last few decades. Although there are sufficient studies related to O impact assessment studies on crop plants and tree species, studies pertaining to O effects on medicinal plants are comparatively sparse. During the recent years, the mitigation strategies for management of O stress in plants have also assumed paramount significance.

Background: The inappropriate use of antibiotics increases the costs of treatment, antibiotic resistance, increased disease length and duration of hospital stay.

Objectives: The aim of this study was investigating the pattern of use and effectiveness of the Linezolid in COVID-19 hospitalized patients.

Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional analytical study was carried out from February 2020 (from the beginning of the pandemic in Iran) to the end of September 2020, 32 COVID-19 patients that used Linezolid were included.

Ozone (O) is an unstable, highly oxidative gas that rapidly decomposes into oxygen. The therapeutic use of O dates back to the beginning of 20th century and is currently based on the application of low doses, inducing moderate oxidative stress that stimulates the antioxidant cellular defences without causing cell damage. In recent decades, experimental investigations allowed the establishment of some basic mechanisms accounting for the therapeutic effects of eustress-inducing low-dose O.

Medical ozone is a molecule composed of three oxygen atoms with anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antioxidant functions. Ozone therapy (O3 or O2- O3) for knee osteoarthritis has gradually received increasing attention from researchers in recent years. Here, we discuss the research hotspots and development trends of ozone therapy for knee osteoarthritis through literature visualization and analysis.

Chemical phototoxicity is elicited after exposure of skin to photosensitive chemicals, followed by exposure to sunlight. The intensity of ultraviolet light has increased due to ozone layer destruction; therefore, interest in avoidance of the phototoxicity risk of chemicals has increased in drug discovery and product development. Based on the mechanism of chemical phototoxicity, a photosafety screening strategy focusing on the photoreactivity of chemicals and skin exposure to chemicals was proposed.
