Introduction: One of the most important problems for patients undergoing hemodialysis due to chronic renal failure is the need for a long-lasting vascular access. The patency of vascular access is affected by many factors. Factors related to surgery are also among these factors. No-touch techniques theoretically and practically prevent endothelial damage due to minimal contact on vascular structures. It is a well-known fact that surgeries performed with these methods also increase long-term survival.

Methods: Patients who underwent distal radiocephalic arteriovenous fistula (AVF) surgery for the first time between 2017 and 2021 were included in our study. The groups, whose cephalic veins were inflated conventionally and not inflated, were compared in a prospective randomized manner.

Results: There was a significant difference between both groups in terms of failure and patency rates, which is one of the study endpoints ( = 0.012). The fact that the patency period is long, and the failure rate is low stands out as the superiority of the fully no-touch technique in AVF surgery. On the other hand, no significant difference was observed in terms of failure to maturation and fistula maturation time.

Conclusions: Fully no-touch technique in AVF surgery should be considered primarily in suitable patients due to its long patency time and low failure rate.

Integrated multisensory feedback plays a crucial role in balance control. Minimal fingertip contact with a surface (light touch), reduces the center of pressure (CoP) by adding sensory information about postural orientation and balance state. Electrical vestibular stimulation (EVS) can increase sway by adding erroneous vestibular cues.

Current Challenges in Environmental Decontamination and Instrument Reprocessing.

Int Dent J

November 2024

The University of Queensland School of Dentistry, UQ Oral Health Centre, Herston, Queensland, Australia. Electronic address:

Decontamination of the clinical working environment and reprocessing of reusable dental instruments and devices are key components of modern infection control. This narrative review, which is part of a special issue devoted to contemporary infection control practices, highlights the latest evidence and the potential role of emerging technologies. The underpinning concepts of environmental decontamination and reprocessing have remained unchanged for many years, and key principles such as cleaning before disinfection or sterilisation remain true to the present day.

In your skin? Somatosensory cortex is purposely recruited to situate but not simulate vicarious touch.

Previous studies of vicarious touch suggest that we automatically simulate observed touch experiences in our own body representation including primary and secondary somatosensory cortex (SCx). However, whether these early sensory areas are activated in a reflexive manner and the extent with which such SCx activations represent touch qualities, like texture, remains unclear. We measured event-related potentials (ERPs) of SCx's hierarchical processing stages, which map onto successive somatosensory ERP components, to investigate the timing of vicarious touch effects.

The radial artery has been used for decades as an alternative to other arterial bypass graft conduits. Positive long-term patency results and survival benefits have led to an increase in its popularity. The emerging evidence of the need for total arterial myocardial revascularization unleashes the potential of the radial artery as a versatile arterial conduit capable of reaching all coronary targets in a lot of different configurations.

Introduction: Deprivation of sunlight (DoS) should be considered independently as a method of torture. We review the definition and the spectrum of DoS, and the harms it causes that may rise to the level of torture.

Method: We review relevant international case law, and highlight how the harms of DoS have historically not been fully considered in torture cases, possibly legitimizing its use.
