Herein, a novel IR NLO oxytelluride SrGeOTe was successfully designed and synthesized through a "partial O-to-Te substitution" strategy. Compared with the parent oxide, SrGeOTe not only successfully achieves a phase-matchability transition (from NPM to PM), but also greatly improves the linear and NLO performances, including a wide band gap (2.26 eV), strong SHG response (1.3 × AgGaSe) and large optical anisotropy (Δ = 0.152@2090 nm). The analyses of the structure-property relationship and SHG-density indicate that the bridging oxygen in the [OGe-O-GeTe] prism unit plays the most important role in the multiplication SHG effect. This work provides some insights into the design and exploration of novel IR NLO materials.

The complexity of the intrinsic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) mechanism, particularly the precise relationships between the local coordination geometry of active metal centers and the resulting OER kinetics, remains to be fully understood. Herein, we construct a series of 3 d transition metal-incorporated cobalt hydroxide-based nanobox architectures for the OER which contain tetrahedrally coordinated Co(II) centers. Combination of bulk- and surface-sensitive operando spectroelectrochemical approaches reveals that tetrahedral Co(II) centers undergo a dynamic transformation into highly active Co(IV) intermediates acting as the true OER active species which activate lattice oxygen during the OER.

Background: Left ventricular unloading is needed in patients on extracorporeal life support (ECLS) with severely impaired left ventricular contractility to avoid stasis and pulmonary congestion, and to promote LV recovery. The presence of thrombi in the LV precludes the use of conventional active unloading methods such as transaortic microaxial pumps or apical LV vents.
