Introduction: The tonsillectomy is a common surgical procedure performed for the treatment of chronic tonsillitis (CT). In the present study, we aim to evaluate the quality of life (QOL) after CT.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective study among 100 tonsillectomy patients whose data were collected from the department records. The QOL was evaluated using the "Glasgow Benefit Inventory." We assessed various parameters pre-and post-surgery. We deliberated < 0.05 as significant when comparing the pre-and post-surgical QOL.

Results: We observed that of the 100 subjected selected for the study, there was a significant improvement in the QOL and the disease severity variables.

Conclusions: The tonsillectomy for the treatment of CT among adults has improved the QOL of the patients. Overall patients' health conditions and professional life improved after the procedure.

Objective: Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is an effective neurosurgical option for patients with treatment-resistant obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Despite being more costly than neuroablative procedures of comparable efficacy, DBS has gained popularity over the years for its reversibility and adjustability. Although the cost-effectiveness of DBS has been investigated extensively in movement disorders, few economic analyses of DBS for psychiatric disorders exist.

The BMT CTN 1703 phase III trial confirmed that graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) prophylaxis with post-transplantation cyclophosphamide (PTCy), tacrolimus (Tac), and mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) results in superior GVHD-free, relapse-free survival (GRFS) compared with Tac/methotrexate (MTX) prophylaxis. This companion study assesses the effect of these regimens on patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Using the Lee Chronic GVHD Symptom Score and PROMIS subscales (physical function, GI symptoms, social role satisfaction) as primary end points and hemorrhagic cystitis symptoms and Lee subscales as secondary end points, responses from English and Spanish speakers were analyzed at baseline and days 100, 180, and 365 after transplant.

d-Tagatose, a rare sugar endowed with a low-calorie property, superior taste quality, and probiotic functionality, has garnered significant research attention. However, the prevailing biological production methods relying on β-galactosidase and l-arabinose isomerase face challenges including high cost and suboptimal conversion efficiency. Consequently, it is of great research significance to find efficient alternative routes for d-tagatose synthesis.
