Distinct effects of glucocorticoid on pseudorabies virus infection in neuron-like and epithelial cells.

J Virol

January 2025

Jiangsu Co-innovation Center for Prevention and Control of Important Animal Infectious Diseases and Zoonoses, College of Veterinary Medicine, Yangzhou University, Yangzhou, China.

Pseudorabies virus (PRV) is a porcine neurotropic alphaherpesvirus that infects peripheral tissues of its host, spreads into the nervous system, and establishes a life-long latency in neuronal cells. During productive infection, PRV replicates rapidly and causes pseudorabies or Aujeszky's disease. Reactivation from latent infection in the nervous system may lead to anterograde axonal transport of progeny virions, leading to recurrent infection of the epithelial layer and virus spread.

Cushing syndrome.

Nat Rev Dis Primers

January 2025

Endocrine Division, Department of Medicine, Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM), Montreal, Québec, Canada.

Cushing syndrome (CS) is a constellation of signs and symptoms caused by excessive exposure to exogenous or endogenous glucocorticoid hormones. Endogenous CS is caused by increased cortisol production by one or both adrenal glands (adrenal CS) or by elevated adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secretion from a pituitary tumour (Cushing disease (CD)) or non-pituitary tumour (ectopic ACTH secretion), which stimulates excessive cortisol production. CS is associated with severe multisystem morbidity, including impaired cardiovascular and metabolic function, infections and neuropsychiatric disorders, which notably reduce quality of life.

Purpose: This study aims to provide new insights into the potential of oyster mushroom () ethanolic extract in preventing obesity through the inhibition of expression and modulation of methylation level on promoter during 3T3-L1 adipocyte differentiation.

Methods: This in vitro quantitative experimental study was conducted by treating the 3T3-L1 cell line differentiated using 0.5 mM methyl-isobutyl-xanthine, 1 μM dexamethasone, and 10 μg/mL insulin-containing medium with oyster mushroom ethanolic extract.

Background: Mild autonomous cortisol secretion (MACS) is common in adrenal adenomas, including patients with primary aldosteronism (PA) with aldosterone-producing adenomas (APA). This study investigated the impact of MACS on cardiac remodeling and diastolic dysfunction in patients with APA.

Methods: We prospectively enrolled 483 patients with APA.

Coordinated regulation of eosinophil production and migration by glucocorticoids, prostaglandins, and cysteinyl-leukotrienes.

Int Immunopharmacol

January 2025

Laboratório de Citocinas Dept. of Immunology Instituto de Microbiologia Prof. Paulo de Góes Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro Rio de Janeiro Brazil.

Introduction: The spectrum of eosinophil functions has expanded from fighting helminths to multiple novel roles in malignancy, infection, cancer, and metabolism. In asthma, glucocorticoids, prostaglandins (PG), and cysteinyl-leukotrienes (LT) regulate eosinophil biology through separate signaling pathways. Here we've evaluated the complex interplay between Dexa, PGE2, and CysLTs in eosinopoiesis and eosinophil biology in an allergic asthma model.
