Nyssorhynchus (Nyssorhynchus) jamariensis, a new species of the Nuneztovari Complex, previously known as Anopheles (Nyssorhynchus) nuneztovari A, is described and validated using morphological characters of the adult male and female, male genitalia and immature stages. The species is recorded from the western Brazilian Amazon, where it was collected in pastures in the vicinity of the Jamari River, municipality of Monte Negro, Rondnia State, Brazil. Illustrations of the male genitalia, fourth-instar larva and pupa are provided. Nyssorhynchus jamariensis may be involved in malaria transmission, but its vector status needs further investigation.

species composition, abundance, and natural infection are important aspects to assess malaria transmission risk. In this study, these aspects were evaluated in a large number of localities in the most important malaria-endemic regions of Colombia. Mosquitoes were collected from 2012 to 2015 in 55 localities of northwestern and western Colombia.

In the department of Córdoba, 21 widely distributed species have been described, of which , , , and are the most abundant species, and the last three play a vectorial role in Malaria transmission in Colombia. A correct taxonomic identification of malaria insect vectors is of vital importance for the development of effective vector control strategies. However, the identification of individuals from the genus presents difficulties due to the loss of relevant morphological characters during the transport and preservation of the collected specimens.

Background: In Brazilian Amazon, deforestation and other anthropogenic activities as a consequence of human occupation have created new and artificial larval habitats for anopheline mosquitoes, providing conditions for oviposition, development and expansion of malaria vector populations.
Objectives: This study aimed to structurally characterize and describe the entomological and limnological parameters of Anopheles larval habitats from a malaria region in northern Brazilian Amazon.
Methods: Fifty-two larval habitats were investigated in the District of Ilha de Santana, in the Brazilian state of Amapá, comprising fish farming tanks, ponds, and streams.

Population subdivision among several neotropical malaria vectors has been widely evaluated; however, few studies have analyzed population variation at a microgeographic scale, wherein local environmental variables may lead to population differentiation. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the genetic and geometric morphometric structure of Anopheles nuneztovari and Anopheles albimanus in endemic localities of northwestern Colombia. Genetic and phenetic structures were evaluated using microsatellites markers and wing geometric morphometrics, respectively.
