23E-diacetoxybenzylidenespirostanes underwent rearrangement when treated with HCl in CHCl/CHOH. The course of the rearrangement depends on the substitution pattern in the phenyl ring. While compounds bearing an acetoxy group at the ortho position produced spirochromenes, the partners with no substituent at the ortho position led to spiroindenes. All the rearranged compounds exhibited moderate antioxidant activity.

In this work, several imidazo[1,2-]pyridines were synthesized through the Groebke-Blackburn-Bienaymé three-component reaction (GBB-3CR), and their phytotoxicity was evaluated by the influence on the growth of wheat coleoptiles and three important agricultural seeds (, , and ) at test concentrations of 1000, 300, 100, 30, and 10 μM. A structure-activity relationship was established, showing the importance of halogen groups at the position of the attached aromatic ring and the presence of a cyclohexylamine group for greater activity. Post-modification of some GBB-3CR adducts was carried out, leading to imidazo[1,2-]pyridine-tetrazole hybrids, which were also evaluated in these bioassays.

Both enantiomers of 2-ethylquinazolin-4-ones bearing -CHO/CDO and CHO/CHO phenyl groups at the N3 position were prepared. These are isotopic atropisomeric compounds based on a remote and conformationally flexible H/D and C/C discrimination, and it was found that a CHCl solution of -CHO/CDO derivative shows a slight specific optical rotation. Furthermore, diastereomeric quinazolinone derivatives bearing a chiral carbon were prepared, and their stereochemical purities and rotational stability as well as the isotopic atropisomerism were verified by H NMR and chiral high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analyses.

The metabolic conversion of aromatic amines to N-acetylated forms in skin and keratinocytes depends on N-acetyltransferase-1 (NAT1). Common hair color ingredient such as para-phenylenediamine (PPD) causes allergic contact dermatitis. We explored how different electronic substituents on PPD aided NAT1 enzyme biotransform oxidative arylamine (AA) compounds G1-G13 by N-acetylation, NAT-1 activity assays, metabolism, and in vitro clearance investigations in human keratinocytes, while identifying NAT-1 protein levels by Western blot and qRT-PCR.

Purpose: To investigate the association between common measures of trunk and lower extremity range of motion (ROM), strength, the results of one-leg jump tests at baseline and the incidence of subsequent substantial knee injuries in adolescent female football players.
Methods: Players were assessed at baseline regarding (1) ROM of trunk, hip, and ankle; (2) trunk, hip, and knee strength; and (3) one-leg jump tests. Players were prospectively monitored weekly for 1 year regarding knee injuries and the volume of matches and training.

Purpose: High-grade femoral trochlear dysplasia is associated with anterior knee pain, patellar maltracking, instability and the development of osteoarthritis. Scientific studies have signified the importance of trochlear resection on the knee extensor mechanism, and dysplasia can be addressed by a groove-deepening trochleoplasty. Alternatively, tibial tubercle anteriorisation has been proposed to reduce patellofemoral joint (PFJ) pressure and alleviate pain from osteoarthritis.
