Background: Focal tissue overgrowths on the gingiva and edentulous alveolar ridge are occasionally perplexing to periodontists, owing to the wide variety of differential diagnoses that may be responsible. As such, biopsy and microscopy are often required to establish a definitive diagnosis. The present study aimed to retrospectively evaluate focal gingival and alveolar ridge overgrowths at a single institution in Saudi Arabia.
Materials And Methods: Histopathology reports and slides from patients presenting to King Saud University Hospital between 1984 and 2016, particularly those with focal gingival enlargements other than those due to gingivitis and periodontitis, were collected and analyzed based on age, sex, and location.
Results: A total of 624 patient records were evaluated, with a mean age of 35 years (range, 1 week-91 years), peak incidence in the third decade of life, male-to-female ratio of 1:1.4, and a slightly higher prevalence of lesions in the mandible. The majority (88%) of the lesions were reactive or hyperplastic, followed by malignant (10%) and benign (2%) tumors. A total of 24 distinct histological entities were diagnosed across the three groups. The most common histologically diagnosed lesions were pyogenic granulomas (38%), fibromas (33%), peripheral ossifying fibromas (9%), squamous cell carcinomas (7%), peripheral giant cell granulomas (6%), neurofibromas (1%), and non-Hodgkin lymphomas (1%).
Conclusion: Similar to what has been reported by most previous studies, reactive hyperplastic lesions were the most prevalent focal overgrowths found in the gingival and alveolar mucosae. Carcinomas at these sites, however, may be an understated but significant clinical and epidemiological problem in Saudi Arabia. Gingival and alveolar ridge lumps can serve as a nexus for cooperation between periodontologists and oral pathologists to improve diagnosis, disease classification, and patient management.

Background And Objectives: Gingivitis and periodontitis are common periodontal diseases that can significantly harm overall oral health, affecting the teeth and their supporting tissues, along with the surrounding anatomical structures, and if left untreated, leading to the total destruction of the alveolar bone and the connective tissues, tooth loss, and other more serious systemic health issues. Numerous studies have shown that propolis can help reduce gum inflammation, inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteria, and promote tissue regeneration, but with varying degrees of success reported. For this reason, this comprehensive systematic review aims at finding out the truth concerning the efficacy of propolis mouthwashes in treating gingivitis and periodontitis, as its main objective.

Objective: To evaluate the wound healing of recipient and donor sites following keratinized mucosa augmentation (KMA) around implants in reconstructed jaw areas and to compare these outcomes with gingival grafts in native jawbone, so as to provide clinical guidance for postoperative maintenance, and to investigate the impact of clinical experience on the evaluation of KMA postoperative healing through subgroup comparisons.
Methods: This study included patients who underwent resection of maxillofacial tumors, fibular or iliac flap reconstruction, and implant placement at Peking University Dental Hospital from October 2020 to April 2023. Three months post-implant placement, the patients were referred for KMA procedures.

Orthodontic treatment aims to correct malocclusions and ensure the overall health and stability of the periodontium. The relationship between orthodontic therapy and periodontal health is intricate and multifaceted, and a comprehensive approach is often required to achieve optimal outcomes. Firstly, this article delves into the impact of orthodontic mechanics on periodontal tissues, emphasizing the importance of minimizing iatrogenic effects such as root resorption and gingival recession.

Peri-implantitis is a pathologic condition associated with dental plaque that occurs in the implant tissue and is characterized by inflammation of the mucous membrane surrounding the implant, followed by the progressive loss of supporting bone. In this study, a case of guided bone regeneration therapy based on plaque control of peri-implant inflammation was reported. Four years after surgery for the left second premolar implant, the patient presented with "left lower posterior tooth swelling and discomfort for more than 2 years".
