We theoretically analyze the resilience (efficiency) of health insurance systems and diverse factors including trace and test technology, infection and contagion rates, and social distancing/lockdown policy, in coping with contagious diseases like COVID-19. Our findings can be summarized as follows. First, public insurance is more resilient than market insurance, as the former's investment in test technology is made at the social optimum, whereas the latter's investment is less. The decentralized behavior of competing insurers leads to a less resilient outcome. Second, resilience decreases as the market becomes more competitive because the externality effect becomes more severe. Third, a higher contagion rate, a more cost-efficient test technology or a higher initial infection rate unless it is not too high, leads to a higher test accuracy level. Fourth, the socially optimal social distancing/lockdown policy is determined by comparison between its relative costs and the benefit from contagion reduction.

Solid-state polymer electrolytes (SPEs) with high ionic conductivity, a wide voltage window, and an ultra-stability electrolyte/electrode interface are essential for practical applications of solid lithium-metal batteries but particularly challenging. The key to overcoming these long-term obstacles lies in the rational design of the Li+ solvation-desolvation behavior in SPEs. Herein, we propose an electric-dipole coupling ion-dipole strategy to modulate the Li+ solvation structure and enhance Li+ desolvation kinetics.

Fluorescent protein-based biosensors are indispensable molecular tools in cell biology and biomedical research, providing non-invasive dynamic measurements of metabolite concentrations and other cellular signals. Traditional methods for developing these biosensors rely on rational design, but directed evolution methods offer a more efficient alternative. This review discusses recent advancements in the development of biosensors using directed evolution, including methods for optimizing domain fusions, sequence optimization, and new screening and selection systems.

Introduction: Delay in detecting acute deterioration in older adults in care homes is associated with avoidable hospitalizations and adverse outcomes, including premature death.
Objective: Underpinned by the Knowledge to Action Framework, this study aimed to understand the barriers and enablers to direct care staff detecting and responding to the early signs of acute deterioration in care home residents.
Study Design: Online focus groups or interviews with regulated (registered and enrolled nurses) and unregulated (assistants in nursing and personal care workers) direct care staff from participating care homes were conducted.

This paper studies a geometric attitude tracking control problem of quadrotor unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with adaptive extended state observers (AESOs). Through coordinate transformation, the error dynamic of AESO can be transformed into a canonical form which is easier to analyze by linear time-varying theory. In the presence of unknown disturbances and system uncertainties, the estimated error and stability of AESO can be analyzed.
