Background: The effect of maternal diabetes on childhood cancer has not been widely studied.
Methods: We examined this in two population-based studies in Denmark (N = 6420 cancer cases, 160,484 controls) and Taiwan (N = 2160 cancer cases, 2,076,877 non-cases) using logistic regression and Cox proportional hazard regression adjusted for birth year, child's sex, maternal age and birth order.
Results: Gestational diabetes in Denmark [odds ratio (OR) = 0.98, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.71-1.35] or type II and gestational diabetes in Taiwan (type II: hazard ratio (HR) = 0.81, 95% CI: 0.63-1.05; gestational diabetes: HR = 1.06, 95% CI: 0.92-1.22) were not associated with cancer (all types combined). In Denmark, maternal type I diabetes was associated with the risk of glioma (OR = 2.33, 95% CI: 1.04-5.22), while in Taiwan, the risks of glioma (HR = 1.59, 95% CI: 1.01-2.50) were elevated among children whose mothers had gestational diabetes. There was a twofold increased risk for hepatoblastoma with maternal type II diabetes (HR = 2.02, 95% CI: 1.02-4.00).
Conclusions: Our results suggest that maternal diabetes is an important risk factor for certain types of childhood cancers, emphasising the need for effective interventions targeting maternal diabetes to prevent serious health effects in offspring.

No study has examined the association between dietary insulin load (DIL) and insulin index (DII) with developing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) during pregnancy. This study aimed to investigate the association between DIL and DII and risk of GDM in a group of pregnant women in Iran. In this prospective cohort study, 812 pregnant in their first trimester were recruited and followed.

Background: Functional foods have been widely used as the anti-diabetic agents worldwide. Existing studies presented conflicting results of anti-hyperglycemic properties of gums. This systematic review and meta-analysis study evaluated the existing trials and determined the efficacy of different gums on glycemic indices.

Objective: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common complication during pregnancy and increases the risk of metabolic diseases in offspring. We hypothesize that the poor intrauterine environment in pregnant women with GDM may lead to chromosomal DNA damage and telomere damage in umbilical cord blood cells, providing evidence of an association between intrauterine programming and increased long-term metabolic disease risk in offspring.
Methods: We measured telomere length (TL), serum telomerase (TE) activity, and oxidative stress markers in umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells (CBMCs) from pregnant women with GDM (N=200) and healthy controls (Ctrls) (N=200) and analysed the associations of TL with demographic characteristics, biochemical indicators, and blood glucose levels.

Introduction: The evidence of association between physical activity (PA), sedentary behavior (SB) and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) remains controversial in observational studies, this study aimed to generate new hypotheses between PA, SB and GDM.
Methods: Our study performed Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to explore the effects of three types of PA (moderate physical activity (MPA), moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), accelerometer-based physical activity (ABPA)), three types of SB (television watching (TV), leisure computer use (PC), driving (DR)) on GDM and the mediating effect of body mass index (BMI). The inverse variance weighted method was used for the major analysis.
Objective: To understand the perinatal experiences of women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) who intended to breastfeed.
Design: Qualitative descriptive study.
Setting/local Problem: Women with GDM and their infants benefit from breastfeeding but have lower exclusive breastfeeding rates than women without GDM, and the reasons for these differences are not entirely clear.
