This paper presents a novel approximation unit added to the conventional spike processing chain which provides an appreciable reduction of complexity of the high-hardware cost feature extractors. The use of the Taylor polynomial is proposed and modelled employing its cascaded derivatives to non-uniformly capture the essential samples in each spike for reliable feature extraction and sorting. Inclusion of the approximation unit can provide 3X compression (i.e. from 66 to 22 samples) to the spike waveforms while preserving their shapes. Detailed spike waveform sequences based on in-vivo measurements have been generated using a customized neural simulator for performance assessment of the approximation unit tested on six published feature extractors. For noise levels σ between 0.05 and 0.3 and groups of 3 spikes in each channel, all the feature extractors provide almost same sorting performance before and after approximation. The overall implementation cost when including the approximation unit and feature extraction shows a large reduction (i.e. up to 8.7X) in the hardware costly and more accurate feature extractors, offering a substantial improvement in feature extraction design.

Despite tremendous progress in characterizing the myriad cellular structures in the nervous system, a full appreciation of the interdependent and intricate interactions between these structures is as yet unfulfilled. Indeed, few more so than the interaction between the myelin internode and its ensheathed axon. More than a half-century after the ultrastructural characterization of this axomyelin unit, we lack a reliable understanding of the physiological properties, the significance and consequence of pathobiological processes, and the means to gauge success or failure of interventions designed to mitigate disease.

The crystallographic phase change from tetragonal litharge (α-PbO; P4/nmm) to orthorhombic massicot (β-PbO; Pbcm) has been studied by full-matrix Rietveld analysis of high-temperature neutron powder diffraction data collected in equal steps from ambient temperature up to 925 K and back down to 350 K. The phase transformation takes place between 850 and 925 K, with the coexisting phases having equal abundance by weight at 885 K. The product massicot remains metastable on cooling to near ambient temperature.

The main objective of this work is to study the mathematical model that combines stem cell therapy and chemotherapy for cancer cells. We study the model using the fractal fractional derivative with the Mittag-Leffler kernel. In the analytical part, we study the existence of the solution and its uniqueness, which was studied based on the fixed point theory.

Cestodes of the genus Spirometra are multi-host parasites that are the causative agents of spirometrosis in domestic and wild carnivores and sparganosis in humans, endemic diseases in tropical and subtropical regions. In domestic animals, the infection is usually asymptomatic or produces gastrointestinal signs such as vomiting and chronic diarrhoea. In humans, an incidental parasitosis develops where the plerocercoid can lodge in tissues and cause a variety of symptoms, including neuropathies, blindness, paralysis, and death.

Emotion recognition is an advanced technology for understanding human behavior and psychological states, with extensive applications for mental health monitoring, human-computer interaction, and affective computing. Based on electroencephalography (EEG), the biomedical signals naturally generated by the brain, this work proposes a resource-efficient multi-entropy fusion method for classifying emotional states. First, Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) is applied to extract five brain rhythms, i.
