Four new daphnane-type diterpenes named tianchaterpenes C-F (-) and six known ones were isolated from . Their structures were elucidated based on chemical and spectral analyses. The comparisons of calculated and experimental electronic circular dichroism (ECD) methods were used to determine the absolute configurations of new compounds. Additionally, compounds - were evaluated for their cytotoxic activities against HGC-27 cell lines; the results demonstrate that compound had strong cytotoxic activities with IC values of 8.8 µM, for which activity was better than that of cisplatin (13.2 ± 0.67 µM).

Hura crepitans (Euphorbiaceae), is widespread in the Amazon rainforest and on plantations in sub-Saharan Africa. This tree produces an irritating milky latex rich in secondary metabolites, notably daphnane-type diterpenes and cerebrosides. Previous studies have shown that huratoxin, the main daphnane in the latex, significantly and selectively inhibited the growth of colorectal cancer cells through a unique mechanism involving the activation of PKCζ.

Four diterpenes of the daphnane type were isolated from a methanol extract of the flower buds of , the two of them were new structures named genkwadanes J () and K (). Their structures were determined based on analysis of their 1D- and 2D-NMR, HRESIMS and ECD calculations. Among the isolates, the cytotoxicity was assessed the MTT method using the K562, MCF-7 and HeLa cancer cell lines, the positive control was taxol.

Hura crepitans L. (Euphorbiaceae) is a thorn-covered tree widespread in South America, Africa and Asia which produces an irritating milky latex containing numerous secondary metabolites, notably daphnane-type diterpenes known as Protein Kinase C activators. Fractionation of a dichloromethane extract of the latex led to the isolation of five new daphnane diterpenes (1-5), along with two known analogs (6-7) including huratoxin.

Daphnane-type diterpenoids, which are scarce in nature, exhibit potent growth-inhibitory activities against various cancer cells.
