An ultrasound-assisted, one-pot cloud point extraction was developed for the determination of iron in vegetable samples by UV-Visible spectrophotometry. This method was based on the complexation of iron with an environmentally-friendly natural chelating agent extracted from Dyer fruit at pH 5.5 in the presence of Triton X-114. Reagent extraction, complexation, and preconcentration were performed simultaneously using ultrasound-assisted extraction at 45 °C. The surfactant-rich phase was diluted with ethanol and loaded through a syringe barrel packed with cotton that acted as a filter to trap the reagent powder. Analyte-entrapped on cotton was eluted using 0.1 mol·L nitric acid solution. Filtrate and eluate solutions were measured absorbance of the dark-blue product at 575 nm. Influential parameters for the procedure were investigated. Under the optimum experimental conditions, the calibration curve was linear, ranging from 0.1 to 1.0 mg·L with = 0.997. Limits of detection and quantification were 0.03 and 0.09 mg·L, respectively while precision values of intra-day and inter-day were less than 5%. Recovery at 0.5 mg·L ranged from 89.0 to 99.8%, while iron content in vegetable samples ranged from 2.45 to 13.36 mg/100 g. This method was cost-effective, reliable, eco-friendly, and convenient as a green analytical approach to determining iron content.

A convenient and efficient method for undergraduate student experiments involves the one-pot synthesis of phenytoin from benzoin. This method utilized ultrasonic irradiation in the presence of basic catalyst at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, resulting in shortened reaction times, good yields, and excellent reproducibility. By employing a low-cost ultrasonic cleaner for ultrasonic irradiation in student experiments, the need for expensive equipment investment during the teaching process can be minimized.

A novel class of ethyl 2-aryl-3-ethoxy-5-methyl-3-oxido-2-thiazolo[2,3-][1,4,2]diazaphosphole-6-carboxylates (2a-j) were synthesized a one-pot, three-component method. This reaction utilized ethyl 2-amino-4-methylthiazole-5-carboxylate (1) with different aromatic aldehydes and ethyl dichlorophosphite in THF under ultrasonic irradiation, with triethylamine as an efficient catalyst at 50 °C. The reaction provided the desired products 2a-j in high yields within a short timeframe.

This research presents a sustainable approach to fabricate iron oxide nanoparticles by employing phytochemicals derived from marine grass extract as both reducing and stabilizing agents. Formation of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) initially confirmed by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) showing absorption peak at 370 nm. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques unveiled magnetic iron oxide NPs with a rod shape, an average size of 21 nm, and an inverse spinel crystal structure.

In the context of age-related disorders, the receptor of advanced glycation end products (RAGE), plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of these conditions by triggering downstream signaling pathways associated with chronic inflammation and oxidative stress. Targeting this inflammaging phenomenon with RAGE antagonists holds promise for interventions with broad implications in healthy aging and the management of age-related conditions. This study explores the structure-activity relationship (SAR) of pyrazoline-based RAGE antagonists synthesized using an ultrasound-assisted green one-pot two-steps methodology.

Complete valorization of lignocellulosic biomass is crucial for bio-based biorefineries to fulfil the circular bioeconomy concept. However, the existence of lignin carbohydrate complexes (LCC) in biomass hinders the simultaneous fractionation of biomass components, such as lignin, hemicellulose and cellulose, for subsequent biorefining processes. This study explores for the first time a novel approach tailored for the deconstruction of sorghum biomass components through efficient breakdown of LCC.
