The inappropriate use and indiscriminate disposal of antibiotics has become a menace worldwide. The incomplete removal of these contaminants from wastewater treatment plants has also contributed to this. This study presents the biodegradation of two veterinary antibiotics; ciprofloxacin (CIP) and enrofloxacin (ENRO). Kinetics models were explored to understand the dynamics of biodegradation in an anaerobic digestion process. This was carried out in batch reactors under various operating conditions: pH, organic loading rate (OLR), and antibiotic concentration. The influence of the parameters was investigated using a response surface methodology (RSM) based on the Box-Behnken experimental design of 15 runs. The data obtained were fitted on a polynomial function model. OLR and pH exhibited a synergistic and antagonistic effect in the response models developed, with a high correlation regression coefficient (R; 0.9834-0.9875) close to 1 at a 95% confidence level. The optimum conditions obtained from the RSM numerical optimization were pH (6), OLR (2 kgCOD·m·days), and an antibiotic concentration of 75%, which gave the removal of CIP, ENRO, and COD, respectively, as 80%, 83%, and 73% at a desirability function of 85%. The kinetics study shows that the biodegradation of antibiotics was well fitted on a first-order model (R; 0.9885-0.9978) with rate constants ranging from 0.0695 to 0.96 days.

Androgens are pleiotropic and play pivotal roles in the formation and variation of sexual phenotypes. We show that differences in circulating androgens between the three male mating morphs in ruff sandpipers are linked to 17-beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase 2 (HSD17B2), encoded by a gene within the supergene that determines the morphs. Low-testosterone males had higher expression in blood than high-testosterone males, as well as in brain areas related to social behaviors and testosterone production.

Climate change poses significant challenges to livestock production worldwide. Wherein, it affects communities in developing nations primarily dependent on agriculture and animal husbandry. Its direct and indirect deleterious effects on agriculture and animal husbandry includes aberrant changes in weather patterns resulting in disturbed homeorhetic mechanism of livestock vis a vis indirectly affecting nutrient composition of feed and fodder.

Endophytes are bacteria that inhabit host plants for most of their life cycle without causing harm. In the study, 15 endophytic bacteria were isolated from 30 forage Sorghum plants and assessed for various plant growth-promoting (PGP) traits, such as phosphate solubilization, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) deaminase activity, ammonia production, siderophore production, gibberellic acid production, Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production, and zinc solubilization. One isolate, JJG_Zn, demonstrated multiple PGP activities and was identified as Enterobacter sp.

South American camelids (SACs), particularly llamas (Lama glama) and alpacas (Vicugna pacos) are gaining popularity in Europe. Initially valued for their fiber and land management capabilities, these animals are now also kept for animal therapy, outdoor activities, and as companion animals. Despite their close interactions with humans and other animals, there is limited research on the transmission of microbes or antimicrobial resistance genes from SACs.

Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) has been successfully employed across various mammalian species, yet cloned animals consistently exhibit low pregnancy rates, primarily due to placental abnormalities such as hyperplasia and hypertrophy. This study investigated the involvement of the Hippo signaling pathway in aberrant placental development in SCNT-induced bovine pregnancies. SCNT-derived cattle exhibited placental hypertrophy, including enlarged abdominal circumference and altered placental cotyledon morphology.
