The use of chiral modifiers is among the simplest and most popular strategies for synthesizing enantioselective voltammetric sensors that are applied for the analysis and discrimination of enantiomerical drugs in various media. The type and structure of the chiral modifier are the key factors for the creation of enantioselectivity to a specified analyte. We suggest a novel approach to the prediction of the quality of a chiral modifier for preparing highly enantioselective sensors. The suggested approach is based on the molecular mechanics modeling of the adsorption of analyte enantiomers on chiral modifiers and on the comparison of the corresponding adsorption energies (ΔE ). The efficiency of our approach is demonstrated using the example of cyclodextrins and chiral single-wall carbon nanotubes as chiral modifiers, and a wide range of chiral analytes. We found that the experimental enantioselectivity (ϑ ) measured using voltammetry linearly correlates with ΔE . The suggested approach also showed good predictive power in application to enantioselective chromatography, which further validates its general applicability.

We report a base-promoted, metal-free multicomponent tandem reaction, involving a [4 + 1 + 1] cycloaddition process between -substituted nitroarenes, aldehydes, and ammonium salts. Modifying the substituents on the nitroaromatic compounds effectively provides structurally diverse 2-substituted and 4-alkenylquinazolines with good to excellent yields (77%-90% and quinazoline 51 examples) and high tolerance for various inorganic ammonium salts (13 examples, such as NH·HO, NHCl, and NHHF). A new method for constructing 2,4-substituted quinazoline compounds with high selectivity from simple nitrogen source compounds was developed, and the reaction can be scaled up to a gram scale.

Cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) are powerful biosourced nanomaterials for the construction of chiral photonic films. While various techniques have been used to enrich the optical properties of such systems, surface roughness engineering has yet to be exploited to significantly modify their optical properties. In this work, by using vacuum filtration-assisted self-assembly, CNCs are densely packed into films with high optical transparency.

ConspectusIn recent years, our research group has dedicated significant effort to the field of asymmetric organometallic electrochemical synthesis (AOES), which integrates electrochemistry with asymmetric transition metal catalysis. On one hand, we have rationalized that organometallic compounds can serve as molecular electrocatalysts (mediators) to reduce overpotentials and enhance both the reactivity and selectivity of reactions. On the other hand, the conditions for asymmetric transition metal catalysis can be substantially improved through electrochemistry, enabling precise modulation of the transition metal's oxidation state by controlling electrochemical potentials and regulating the electron transfer rate via current adjustments.

Unprecedented (2E,4E,6Z,8Z)-nona-2,4,6,8-tetraenoate derivatives highly substituted by aryl groups have been synthesized by the reaction of rhodium complexes having aryl-substituted hexa-1,3,5-trienyl ligands with acrylates. These compounds have potential axial chirality, and their enantiomers are isolable by the chiral HPLC technique. Although the racemization barrier of isolated enantiomers was not high, it was found that a cyclic dimer synthesized by head-to-tail transesterification of a modified analog has quite a stable axial chirality even at a high temperature.
