Plastics pollution is a global issue impacting every part of our environment. Tyre road wear particle (TRWP) plastics pollution is thought to be one of the largest pollution sources in urban environments. These plastics are also of concern due to the presence of additive chemicals, incorporated during manufacture, that can be released into the surrounding environment. This study aimed to provide information on concentrations of a range of anthropogenic plastics related pollutants in the Australian environment through a scoping study of surface water in 5 key urban centres around Queensland, Australia. Samples were analysed for a suite of 15 common tyre additive chemicals, TRWPs and 6 common high production polymers, and included the new transformation product of concern 6PPD-quinone which has recent reports of causing mass mortality events in certain aquatic species. The additives were ubiquitously detected (2.9-1440 ng/L) with 6PPD-quinone concentrations lower than in previous studies (<0.05-24 ng/L) and TRWPs detected at 18 of the 21 sites (

Objective: This study aimed to assess the financial impact of different adoption rates of insulin glargine (IGlar) treatment compared to isophane protamine (neutral protamine hagedorn [NPH]) insulin treatment for patients with type-2 diabetes (T2D) and severe hypoglycemia in Thailand from the payer's perspective.

Methods: The budget impact analysis (BIA) model over a period of 5 years was used to estimate the net budget impact (NBI) of IGlar treatment by comparing the total budget expenditures under two scenarios: scenario 1 involved only NPH insulin and scenario 2 included the introduction of IGlar. The total budget included either the cost of insulin or a combination of the costs of insulin and the expense related to severe hypoglycemia.

A methodological approach to assess the ropy character of stirred acid dairy gels based on the measure of adhesiveness.

January 2025

Department of Food Science, STELA Dairy Science and Technology Research Center, Institute of Nutrition and Functional Foods (INAF), Laval University, Québec City, QC, Canada G1V 0A6.

This work aims to evaluate the potential and limits of adhesiveness measurement using a texturometer to assess the ropiness of acid dairy gels for starter selection. Commercial yogurts of various formulations and textures were used to assess the ability of adhesiveness to detect ropiness and to compare performance of different probes. Chemically acidified gels using different concentrations of glucono-delta-lactone (GDL) were tested to determine the effect of pH on adhesiveness.

is a Gram-positive bacterium, also known as Group A (GAS), that has become a significant threat to the healthcare system, infecting more than 18 million people and resulting in more than 500,000 deaths annually worldwide. GAS infection rates decreased gradually during the 20th century in Western countries, largely due to improved living conditions and access to antibiotics. However, post-COVID-19, the situation has led to a steep increase in GAS infection rates in Europe, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, which triggers a global concern.

The electroreduction of nitrate has emerged as a promising global strategy for water purification in the face of harmful nitrate in wastewater. However, the usually low concentration of nitrate in wastewater poses a great challenge to this process, thus necessitating more in-depth studies to optimize its efficiency. This perspective article briefly explores the various electrochemical pathways of nitrate reduction, including the conversion of nitrate to ammonia, the conversion of nitrate to dinitrogen, and the C-N coupled reduction process.

The nitrogen-rich metal-organic framework (MOF) , featuring a melamine (MA) functional group, enables efficient one-step CH purification and methanol-to-olefins (MTO) product separation. At 298 K, its adsorption capacity follows the order CH > CH > CH > CH. Breakthrough experiments showed that produced pure CH from C mixtures with a productivity of 22.
