A unique B-N coordinated phenanthroimidazole-based zinc salen was synthesized. The zinc salen thus synthesized acts as a photocatalyst for the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide with terminal epoxides under ambient conditions. DFT study of the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide with terminal epoxide indicates the preference of the reaction pathway when photocatalyzed by zinc salen. We anticipate that this strategy will help to design new photocatalysts for CO fixation.

This research has progressed to an effective detection chemosensor of zinc, aluminum ions and oxytetracycline hydrochloride antibiotic based on the fluorescence technique. A straightforward method utilizing microwave irradiation was employed to synthesize the salen-type Schiff base ligand N,N'-bis(salicylaldehyde)4,5-dichloro-1,2-phenylenediamine (HI), providing a good 70 % yield. In ethanol, the HI sensor demonstrated remarkable rapidity, selectivity, and sensitivity in detecting zinc ions.

A building block containing eight zincs and eight iodo groups (8 Zn) is obtained by the Zn complexation of a salen ligand bearing two additional hydroxy groups. Through the Sonogashira-Hagihara coupling of 8 Zn with 1,3,5,7-tetra(4-ethynylphenyl) adamantane, microporous organic polymers bearing octanuclear zinc clusters (MOP-8 Zn) are prepared, exhibiting a high surface area of 562 m g, microporosity, and a particulate morphology with an average diameter of 249 nm. The MOP-8 Zn exhibits significantly enhanced catalytic performance, compared to molecular counterparts, in the reductive carbon dioxide fixation to formamides, possibly due to the cooperative adsorption and confinement effect of networks on substrates.

Chiral covalent organic frameworks (CCOFs) have attracted extensive interest for their potential applications in various enantioselective processes. However, the exploitation of chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS) that enables a new technology for the injection of spin polarized current without the need for a permanent magnetic layer within CCOFs remains a largely untapped area of research. Here, we demonstrate that, for the first time, COFs can be an attractive platform to develop spin filter materials with efficient CISS.

This contribution reports, through a combined thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, UV-vis, powder X-ray diffraction, and Rietveld refinement analysis, on the stimuli-responsive chromic properties of a substituted Zn(salmal) Schiff-base Lewis acidic complex with unique and distinct thermo- and vapochromic characteristics. The solid complex obtained in air or by evaporation of the solvent from their THF solutions shows a marked thermochromism associated with a phase transition, unusually triggered by the reversible desorption/adsorption of one lattice water molecule. In contrast, the anhydrous solid, achieved from THF solutions of the complex by evaporation of the solvent under anhydrous conditions, behaves very differently as it does not show any absorption of water or thermochromism and exhibits varied vapochromic properties.
