Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of scaling and root planing (SRP) on levels of plasma C-reactive protein (CRP).

Methods: A total of 30 patients with advanced periodontitis as determined by Clinical Periodontal Sum Score (CPSS) were recruited. Venous whole blood samples were drawn to obtain serum samples from all participants at baseline and 1 month after SRP (post-SRP). High-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) was measured by highly sensitive immunoturbidimetric assay. Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for data analysis. Spearman rank correlation analysis was conducted to test the correlations between CPSS and hs-CRP at baseline and post-SRP.

Results: There was a statistically significant reduction in the post-SRP CPSS values from the baseline values (z = 4.783, p < 0.0001). Similarly, there was a statistically significant reduction in the post-SRP hs-CRP levels from the baseline levels (z = 4.782, p < 0.0001). Moreover, there was positive association between the baseline levels of CPSS and hs-CRP (ρ = 0.5703) and the post-SRP values of CPSS and hs-CRP (ρ = 0.7507).

Conclusion: The present study suggests that SRP can significantly reduce the levels of CRP.

Background: Salivary compounds can be used as diagnostic markers for changes in the oral cavity that cause oral problems in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).

Methods: This meta-analysis searched PubMed/Medline, EMBASE, Scopus and Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science until Nov 2023. The observational studies included patients with T2DM and healthy controls aged > 18 yr with no oral health problems or systematic or periodontal diseases.

Aims: To explore the effect of plasma homocysteine (Hcy) on cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CMM) among Chinses adults.

Methods: This study combined a community-based cross-sectional study with a 1:1 matched case-control study using propensity score method among adults aged over 30 years in six districts randomly selected from Hunan Province, China. We recruited 5,258 people, of whom 4,012 met the study criteria were enrolled.

Associations between omega-3 fatty acid-derived lipid mediators and markers of inflammation in older subjects with low-grade chronic inflammation.

Prostaglandins Other Lipid Mediat

Cardiovascular Nutrition Laboratory, Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging and Gerald J. and Dorothy R. Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Tufts University; Boston, MA, 02111. Electronic address:

Cardiovascular disease (CVD), the leading cause of death in the United States and globally, is a chronic inflammatory disease likely caused by an impaired ability to resolve inflammation. Pre-clinical studies have provided strong evidence of the activating role of specialized pro-resolving lipid mediators (SPMs) derived from the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) and docosaheaxaenoic acid (DHA) on the resolution of inflammation. However, there is a dearth of information on the role of SPMs on inflammation in humans.

Genetic factors shaping the plasma lipidome and the relations to cardiometabolic risk in children and adolescents.

Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Electronic address:

Background: Lipid species are emerging as biomarkers for cardiometabolic risk in both adults and children. The genetic regulation of lipid species and their impact on cardiometabolic risk during early life remain unexplored.

Methods: Using mass spectrometry-based lipidomics, we measured 227 plasma lipid species in 1149 children and adolescents (44.

Purposes: Immunoglobulin G4-related disease (IgG4-RD) and plasma cell-type idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease (PC-iMCD) have many overlapping features. Their differential diagnosis is challenging and crucial for clinical management due to their different prognoses and treatments. However, reports that compare these conditions are scarce, especially for patients with lung involvement.
