In his insightful and timely review Ouellette (2022021004) noted three theoretical impediments to progress in understanding and modelling collective animal behavior. Here through novel analyses and by drawing on the latest research I show how these obstacles can be either overcome or negated. I suggest ways in which recent advances in the physics of collective behavior provide significant biological information.

In our research, we performed temporal transcriptomic profiling of host cells infected with Equid alphaherpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) by utilizing direct cDNA sequencing based on nanopore MinION technology. The sequencing reads were harnessed for transcript quantification at various time points. Viral infection-induced differential gene expression was identified through the edgeR package.

Radiotherapy (RTx) is a highly effective treatment for head and neck cancer that can cause concurrent damage to surrounding healthy tissues. In cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), the auditory apparatus is inevitably exposed to radiation fields and sustains considerable damage, resulting in dysfunction. To date, little research has been conducted on the changes induced by RTx in the middle ear and the underlying mechanisms involved.

The ability to rapidly respond to wildlife health events is essential. However, such events are often unpredictable, especially with anthropogenic disturbances and climate-related environmental changes driving unforeseen threats. Many events also are short-lived and go undocumented, making it difficult to draw on lessons learned from past investigations.

We introduce a new software package for the Julia programming language, the library ActiveInference.jl. To make active inference agents with Partially Observable Markov Decision Process (POMDP) generative models available to the growing research community using Julia, we re-implemented the pymdp library for Python.

Despite significant strides in medical treatments and surgical procedures for cardiovascular diseases, these conditions continue to be a major global health concern. The persistent need for innovative therapeutic approaches to mend damaged heart tissue highlights the complexity and urgency of this medical challenge. In recent years, stem cells have emerged as a promising tool for tissue regeneration, but challenges such as graft rejection and tumor formation have limited their clinical application.
