The detection of exons is an important area of research in genomic sequence analysis. Many signal-processing methods have been established successfully for detecting the exons based on their periodicity property. However, some improvement is still required to increase the identification accuracy of exons.

Field margins have considerable ecological significance in farming landscapes, but are subject to constant changes resulting from natural processes and anthropogenic pressures. Understanding the balance of these processes is important from an ecological and conservation perspective. We measured 20 variables related to margin composition, woody vegetation and adjacent cropland fragmentation in 70 field margins in SW Poland in 2004 and 2006 (Poland's accession to the EU), and then resurveyed in 2021 by using the same protocol.

This study reports the preparation of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) from commercial bleached eucalyptus Kraft pulp (BEKP) using a hydrothermal treatment in the presence of maleic acid (MA), followed by high-pressure homogenization. Compared with conventional hydrolysis methods, this approach offers significant advantages, including lower acid concentration, higher yield, and milder processing conditions. CNCs were produced with a high yield (70-85 wt %) by high-pressure homogenization of hydrothermally treated BEKP fibers with 10-20 wt % maleic acid at 150 °C, giving rise to a stable translucent gel of CNCs with a rod-like morphology (200-400 nm length and 10-40 nm width).

Robotic artificial muscles, inspired by the adaptability of biological muscles, outperform rigid robots in dynamic environments due to their flexibility. However, the intrinsic compliance of the soft actuators restricts force transmission capacity and dynamic response. Biological muscle modulates their stiffness and damping, varying viscoelastic properties and force in interaction with the surroundings.
