Electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry of transferrin can be used to diagnose congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG) by detecting abnormal -glycosylation due to reduced site occupancy or processing failure. Time-of-flight mass spectrometers are widely used to separate 25-45 charged ions in the / 1,700-3,000 range, and a summed zero-charge mass distribution is generated despite the risk of improper deconvolution. In this study, the low / region of the multiply-charged ion mass spectrum enabled a robust analysis of CDG. A triple quadrupole mass spectrometer, the standard instrument for newborn screening for inborn errors of metabolism, permitted the identification of the key ions characteristic of different types of CDG affecting , , , , and in the / 1,970-2,000 region. Charge deconvolution was used as a complementary tool for validating the findings. It was necessary to set a cutoff level for the evaluation, since small peaks indicating glycosylation failure or reduced sialylation were observed, even in control subjects. This method and workflow facilitates the implementation of MS-based analyses and the screening of CDG in clinical laboratories.

Currently, the trials found that the clinical efficacy of molnupiravir is lower than ritonavir-boosted nirmatrelvir. An explanation for these different efficacies in clinical treatments is still limited. The analysis method was developed and validated to simultaneously quantify nirmatrelvir, ritonavir, and beta-D-N4-hydroxycytidine (NHC) in human plasma and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.

2-Methoxyestradiol (2ME) is involved in the pathogenesis of preeclampsia and antitumor activity. In addition to its low concentration in healthy human serum, presence of isomers makes quantification of 2ME for clinical research and laboratory medicine difficult. The objective of this study was to develop a highly sensitive and accurate method for quantifying 2ME using LC-MS/MS combined with derivatization with 1-(2,4-dinitro-5-fluorophenyl)-4,4-dimethylpiperazinium iodide (MPDNP-F).

Division of Rheumatology, Hospital das Clínicas, Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (HCFMUSP), São Paulo, SP, Brazil; Pediatric Rheumatology Unit, Hospital das Clínicas, Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (HCFMUSP), São Paulo, SP, Brazil.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate biochemical quantitative metabolites in peripheral blood serum samples of Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) patients and healthy controls. A cross-sectional study included 33 post-pubertal JIA (21 without and 12 with Methotrexate (MTX) women and 28 age-matched healthy controls. Metabolomic analyses based on targeted electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry were used to identify possible biochemical pathway modifications in serum from JIA patients.

Direct thrombin inhibitors (designated as EuRL-DTIs) were partially purified from ethanol extracts of Euphorbia resinifera O.Berg latex. The obtained EuRL-DTIs comprised four major compounds: two isomers of phenolic compounds (CHO) and two amide compounds (tentatively identified as CHNO and CHNO), as identified by liquid chromatography and electrospray ionisation quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-QTOF-MS/MS), attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, and/or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.

Epoxides are versatile chemical intermediates that are used in the manufacture of diversified industrial products. For decades, thermochemical conversion has long been employed as the primary synthetic route. However, it has several drawbacks, such as harsh and explosive operating conditions, as well as a significant greenhouse gas emissions problem.
