The current study is concerned with the macroscopic and cytoarchitectonic structure of the motor speech area 44 in the left and right hemispheres of the brain of an outstanding writer (age 62 years). In a series of 20-μm frontal total paraffin sections stained with cresyl violet by the Nissl method, the density of total glia, the density of satellite glia, and the density of neurons surrounded by satellite glia were analyzed. The motor speech area of the cortex of the famous writer is characterized by a more complex macroscopic and cytoarchitectonic structure. In Broca's area, the density of total glia, satellite glia, and the neurons surrounded by satellite glia in associative layer III of area 44 were higher than in the control (brains of 5 men aged 59-71 years).

Impacts of hnRNP A1 Splicing Inhibition on the Brain Remyelination Proteome.

Laboratory of Neuroproteomics, Department of Biochemistry and Tissue Biology, Institute of Biology, University of Campinas, Campinas, Brazil.

Oligodendrocytes, the myelinating cells in the central nervous system, are implicated in several neurological disorders marked by dysfunctional RNA-binding proteins (RBPs). The present study aimed at investigating the role of hnRNP A1 in the proteome of the corpus callosum, prefrontal cortex, and hippocampus of a murine cuprizone-induced demyelination model. Right after the cuprizone insult, we administered an hnRNP A1 splicing activity inhibitor and analyzed its impact on brain remyelination by nanoESI-LC-MS/MS label-free proteomic analysis to assess the biological processes affected in these brain regions.

Aims: The comorbidity of anxiety-like symptoms in neuropathic pain (NP) is a significant yet often overlooked health concern. Anxiety sufferers may have a lower tolerance for pain, but which is difficult to treat. Accumulating evidence suggests a strong link between astrocytes and the manifestation of NP with concurrent anxiety-like behaviors.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic condition influenced by diet, which affects gut microbiota and immune functions. The rising prevalence of IBD, linked to Western diets in developing countries, highlights the need for dietary interventions. This study aimed to assess the impact of white kidney beans (WKB) on gut inflammation and microbiota changes, focusing on their effects on enteric glial cells (EGCs) and immune activity in colitis.

The primary immune constituents in the brain, microglia and macrophages, are the target for HIV in people and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) in nonhuman primates. This infection can lead to neurological dysfunction, known as HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder (HAND). Given the gaps in our knowledge on how these cells respond in vivo to CNS infection, we perform single-cell multiomic sequencing, including gene expression and ATAC-seq, on myeloid cells from the brains of rhesus macaques with SIV-induced encephalitis (SIVE) as well as uninfected controls.

Aim: Given that electroacupuncture (EA) pretreatment inhibits lactate production and lactate-derived lysine lactation (Kla) aggravates ischemic brain injury, we aimed to investigate whether the formation of Kla protein is involved in EA pretreatment to alleviate ischemic brain injury.

Methods: EA was performed on the Baihui acupoint (GV20) of male C57BL/6J mice before receiving the permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO) surgery. Western blot and immunofluorescent staining were used to observe neuronal survival, astrocyte activation, and protein Kla levels, and the lactate levels in ischemic brains were assayed with a commercial kit.
