Background: Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, which is associated with high morbidity and mortality, is a main cause of unexpected myocardial injury after acute myocardial infarction. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), which are formed from protein-coding genes, can sequester microRNAs or proteins, modulate transcription and interfere with splicing.

Host RNA-Binding Proteins as Regulators of HIV-1 Replication.

Viruses

December 2024

Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Virology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Universidad de Chile, Santiago 8380453, Chile.

RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) are cellular factors involved in every step of RNA metabolism. During HIV-1 infection, these proteins are key players in the fine-tuning of viral and host cellular and molecular pathways, including (but not limited to) viral entry, transcription, splicing, RNA modification, translation, decay, assembly, and packaging, as well as the modulation of the antiviral response. Targeted studies have been of paramount importance in identifying and understanding the role of RNA-binding proteins that bind to HIV-1 RNAs.

: The nuclear factor (NF)-kB essential modulator (NEMO) has a crucial role in the NFκB pathway. Hypomorphic pathogenic variants cause ectodermal dysplasia with immunodeficiency (EDA-ID) in affected males. However, heterozygous amorphic variants could be responsible for Incontinentia Pigmenti (IP) in female carriers.

Impact of Larval Sertraline Exposure on Alternative Splicing in Neural Tissue of Adult .

Int J Mol Sci

January 2025

Immunology Laboratory (UMF), Facultad de Estudios Superiores Iztacala, Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Los Barrios No. 1, Los Reyes Iztacala, Tlalnepantla 54090, Mexico.

Sertraline, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), is commonly used to treat various psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety due to its ability to increase serotonin availability in the brain. Recent findings suggest that sertraline may also influence the expression of genes related to synaptic plasticity and neuronal signaling pathways. Alternative splicing, a process that allows a single gene to produce multiple protein isoforms, plays a crucial role in the regulation of neuronal functions and plasticity.
